Chapter 8 - The Enigma Of Fear

The man stared at what was happening; he was speechless, and in that moment he let go of the gun he was gripping tight, and it fell to the ground.

The man dropped to his knees and at that moment he began to beg. "Please don't kill me."

After the mutation that had happened, about fifteen years ago. Most humans weren't affected, and the few humans who were affected in the city were seen as gods and feared. The man currently sees Gideon as one of them because he knows that death is for sure for him after making the careless move of pulling the trigger.

Gideon was stunned as to what had just happened. "Dope, that means I have gotten a superpower." The thought rumbled inside his mind as he thought about it.

Gideon wasn't a mutant; he wasn't impacted by the chemical pollution outbreak that had occurred years back, so what had just happened to him startled him because he knew only mutants were capable of doing something of the sort.

Gideon was confused; he touched his chest before looking up to the man who was begging on the ground. Gideon then turned and left, without saying a word.

He got into the truck he had borrowed from the old lady at the Greenville Forest. But before then, he had scooped a bike at the back of the truck, which he would use to go home after giving the truck back to the woman. He had made her a promise, and he would rather not fail her.

Gideon rode to the forest, and within a couple of hours, he was at the woman's house. He went into the house but didn't see her inside.

"Old lady, where are you? I'm here to return your car. Thanks for the help," Gideon raised his voice, trying his best if he could get it to reach wherever she was at the house.

After a minute of calling out to the woman, Gideon didn't get any response from her, and this startled him.

"Where could she have been," Gideon wondered before stepping out the door. His eyes scanned the environment, but he still couldn't find her.

He didn't want to just leave the car and drive on his bike. What if something bad had happened to the woman? Besides, she was the only one staying in a place like this.

Gideon shook his head dismissively before mumbling. "No I can't leave yet; let me wait a bit."

Gideon had searched around the house but still couldn't find the woman, He even went as far as going into the forest, calling out her name, but still, he didn't get any response.

Gideon was left worried; he returned to the truck and leaned his back against it. "What could have happened, or could she have been attacked by a wild animal?"

While Gideon was deep in thought, he suddenly heard a creaking sound coming from the bush axis, He took a stand waiting for what would reveal itself but then all of a sudden the old woman emerged from the bush, holding an antelope larger than her size on her shoulders, and the moment she saw Gideon, she dropped it on the ground.

"Ooh, you are back. I didn't know you would keep up to your word. I know you must have waited for me and had been worried. Sorry about that. I went off to hunt. That's why I stayed longer than expected, those animals played me smart this time, hehe." The old woman laughed.

Gideon was baffled; not only did he just see the woman carry a giant antelope larger and heavier than her, but she also walked fluently as though the weight was nothing.
