Gideon swiftly adjusted his coat before stepping forward. "How did you know of my coming?"
"Hehe," the cartel boss laughed before standing up. "I know of every single thing that's happening in this city. The mistake you made was ever pushing forward in this investigation after fully knowing my men were behind it."
Gideon didn't flinch at the threat the cartel boss was throwing at him. He casually smirked before replying. "I'm a police officer, so what did you expect? I'm doing my job."
The cartel boss chuckled. "Hmmm, that's fascinating. I'm impressed. It's nice that you are accepting your death willingly and proudly."
Gideon has only one task to get done tonight. If he does it successfully, he won't only fix one of the disturbing crime problems in the city but will also be a hero because the cartel boss he was facing now has a bounty on his head, dead or alive.
"What makes you think you can kill me? Anyways, I'm not here to take you down only; I'm also here to confirm if you are the person who's behind my father's death."
Gideon's father was also a police officer, but he was tricked and killed mysteriously. This was also the reason Gideon had become an officer to make sure he brought his dad's killer to justice. Although this incident occurred years ago, before the chemical leakage that caused some humans in the city to mutate. At that time, Gideon was still a teenager.
After hearing what Gideon said, the man who he had suspected as the cartel boss laughed tauntingly. "I've killed many others, so you have to specify whom you are asking for so I can remember."
The man was just chatting with Gideon because he had him covered already; he knew Gideon wouldn't lay even a single scratch on him, he knew of what Gideon possessed, and even with that, he didn't flinch.
Gideon then pulled out the gun he was carrying that contained the toxin for neutralising mutants. "My father's name is Derrick? Does the name hit a light on your dumb brain?"
Over the years, Gideon had been investigating the death of his father; he had never, for once, found out the name of the cartel boss who had done it, though he knew it was a cartel boss, which meant he was still contemplating whether the man before him was really his father's killer.
The cartel boss scratched his beard, as though thinking, and when he was done, he lowered his gaze. "Yeah, I know him. I remember shooting him in the head."
After this confirmation from the man, Gideon gritted his teeth in anguish. Thereafter he pointed the gun towards the man. "You don't deserve to live."
After saying this, Gideon pulled the trigger, and the bullet met the man on the chest, but he didn't flinch; it felt like it was a bug that stepped on his chest.
The man sneered darkly before pulling out the bullet. "Hehe, this won't be enough to kill a person like me."
Gideon was shocked by how the man was able to resist the neutralisation from the bullet, which was meant to neutralise people like him.
"How is that possible?" Gideon thought inwardly. Though he had expected something like this to happen.
Over the years after the leakage of the chemical outbreak that resulted in people mutating occurred, some victims' bodies began to adapt, making the neutralisation have less effect, though this only happens if the cells of the people affect fit with the hazard. Most people died over the years because their bodies couldn't withstand the mutation process after exposure, which included Gideon's mother.
Gideon has one more trick up his sleeve. He has another version of the mutant bullets neutralizer, but this specific one kills its victims, and he wasn't ready to use it now.
The man burst into laughter after noticing how pale Gideon was. "So you think I will die or something?" He then snapped his fingers, and his men came out from different corners of the room then pointed guns at Gideon.
"Detective Gideon, can you say your last prayer before my men end you?" The cartel boss smirked.
Gideon didn't flinch; he swiftly pulled out the bullets containing the other version of the chemical that could kill mutants, and after sliding them into his gun, he wanted to pull the trigger, but then different bullets rained down on him, piercing different holes on his body.
Gideon fell to the ground; his body bled. He knew he was going to die, but not this way. He didn't even get the chance to shoot the cartel boss for the second time, if he had, then at least he got the chance of killing the most wanted man in the city which involves solving major crime problems that's plugging the city to its downfall.
The cartel boss walked toward Gideon, who was now lying on the ground barely breathing. "You should have accepted what Clara, your colleague, said; maybe you would have lived longer than this."
Things weren't making sense to Gideon; it seemed like the cartel boss already knew his moves since before he pulled them, which means he had been watching all this while.
"Could he have had an insider feeding him with information," Gideon murmured, his sight gradually fading.
The cartel boss gently bent and picked up the gun, containing the bullet that could kill mutants instead of neutralising them and revising the mutations.
Inside the bullets, there is a liquid mechanism such that if the bullets are pulled and make contact with their host, the liquid from the bullets will burst out, causing a chemical reaction that will kill any mutant within seconds.
He placed his leg on Gideon's chest, then pointed the gun at his head. "You should have noticed this already; this city is ours, and you shouldn't trust anybody. And for your father, I'm not his killer, my father, Lucas Storm killed him, and he will be overwhelmed if I tell him the news that I killed you." After saying this, the cartel boss burst into laughter. "Hehehe."
Gideon was left dumbfounded, but just before he could speak, the trigger was pulled and the bullet burst into his skull.
It was like a spark, and it happened in seconds, but before Gideon's sight was engulfed in total darkness, a translucent screen with a mechanical voice appeared in his mind; it was as though he was staring straight at it.
"Welcome to the symbiotic self evolving detective system."
The translucent screen on Gideon sight appeared to be mechanical as if it were some sort of alien tech.
After these words came through with the text flickering across the translucent screen, everything went blank.
