Silence descended around the table as we approached Miss Anabella. Every conversation stopped. Everyone waited for blood again.
"-and then… is something wrong? You all are looking behind me. Is there… someone around?"
Miss Anabella asked before she turned around.
"Oh my-! Mister Black? What a shock to see you here. Did you… seek me out because you wanted to meet me? Of course I will give you my time. Gentlemen, please excuse me for a minute while I talk to Mister Black."
She told the people she was talking to before she turned toward us.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Anabella. I have heard a lot about you and your charity from my fiance and decided I wanted to meet you. But I think you did not notice my presence."
I kept my voice pleasant and modest. I did not make it loud enough to make it seem like I was causing a scene, but it was not low enough to make it seem like I was trying to hide from the others either.
