Chapter 64 - Phantom Spider Suit

Dr. Foster rushed to the computer, scrutinizing the blueprints while muttering to himself, rapidly comparing and calculating the feasibility of the method.

But Peter wasn't worried. Chapter 64: Mind Realm, Time Island December 8, 2015 Author: Red Sea Admiral

The flames were still burning, but their burning posture seemed to be frozen in an instant, as if time had been paused. However, this wasn't true time stop. Except for the Time Stone, one of the gems said to possess infinite power, there's nothing in this world that can pause time.

Even with the Time Stone, Zhou Yi didn't believe it could truly pause the timeline of the entire universe. If such an ability really existed, the universe would have collapsed long ago. He maintained a cautious attitude towards the abilities of those Infinity Stones.

Of course, that didn't mean there were no similar abilities in the world. Because time was relative. It was only absolutely fair to the vast majority of people in the world, which is why some people held the idea that everyone was equal before time. But for the very few, time wasn't fair.

For example, the two brothers who lived for hundreds of years and still wandered everywhere, or the being appearing before Zhou Yi at this moment.

Professor Charles, he was someone who time treated unfairly. Unlike those two brothers, who were given special consideration physically, Charles's special consideration was in his mind.

At this moment, Zhou Yi was pulled into Charles's mind world, and in this mental world of Charles, time had been paused. Everything that existed in the physical world was completely solidified here. Everything, including Charles himself and Zhou Yi's body, but their thoughts were free here.

Time couldn't restrain their thoughts, because thoughts had no boundaries.

Looking at Charles staring at him with a smile, Zhou Yi sighed helplessly and tried to pull a cigarette out of his pocket. But in this world, everything was frozen. And that naturally included cigarettes, which shouldn't exist. They didn't exist in this frozen time, so naturally, Zhou Yi couldn't pull one out.

"Professor, I just wanted to teach this young man a small lesson. There's no need to drag me into this!"

The bald professor stood up and walked in front of Zhou Yi. Here, his spirit had broken free from the shackles of his old body, allowing him to do just that.

"I believe you have a sense of propriety, so I didn't bring you here for this young man. Or rather, that's just a side issue."

"What, are you guys in trouble? I haven't heard anything from Ororo and the others!"

Zhou Yi pinched the bridge of his nose, thinking about what the professor needed his help with. Over the years, because of Ororo, Jean Grey, and Charisse, his relationship with the school had been steadily improving. But the school had never asked him for any help. Neither politically nor economically. Never.

They just quietly maintained their isolated position in society, doing their best to protect some mutants. Although they could do more with Zhou Yi's power, they didn't. And that was why Zhou Yi was willing to accept this group of mutants.

Because it showed that they weren't trying to use him, but rather maintaining a friendly relationship. They saw him as a friend and treated him with sincerity. Then it was enough for Zhou Yi to return their sincerity.

"I don't want Ororo and the others to worry about some things; it would be dangerous for them." The professor smiled. "But that danger doesn't exist for you. So I hope to get your help."

"Alright, I agree. Tell me, what kind of problem is it that you don't even trust your own prized students?"

"I have an old friend, and he's got a dangerous idea brewing. This idea requires the abilities of a new student at my academy to come to fruition, so I need you to protect this new student during this time."

"An old friend?" Zhou Yi was taken aback. "Anyone you call an old friend must be someone important. Can I know the name of this guy with the bad ideas?"

"Erik Lehnsherr. That's the name of my old friend," the Professor said with a hint of nostalgia. "Of course, humans gave him a more intimidating nickname: Magneto."

Slightly tilting his mouth, Zhou Yi felt like he'd been set up by the old bald man. The name Magneto was renowned throughout the world; he had nearly triggered a war between the two superpowers during the Cold War, which was no joke.

And that wasn't even the most famous thing Magneto had done. The most shocking thing he'd done was use his abilities to create a city of metal in the Pacific Ocean.

Using his super control over magnetic fields, Magneto extracted countless metals from the seabed's mineral veins, creating a massive city. And with the help of the Earth's own magnetic field, he even turned this city into a perpetual-day metropolis.

Because this Phantom Spider Suit uses some of the design concepts of the Negative Space Suit.

The Negative Space Suit was what the blonde Spider-Man once used to deal with a villain called Mr. Negative. He was pulled into a negative space, where he collected negative space energy to create the suit.

The Negative Space Suit is also a special suit that achieves special effects by absorbing and releasing exotic energy.

And the Phantom Spider Suit now operates on a similar principle.

However, its absorption direction has shifted to the wearer, and the absorption target has changed from negative space energy to Ghost Particles.

But there isn't a huge difference in essence.

The difficulty lies in the properties of Ghost Particles and how to create an instrument that can accurately absorb them.

But these two points aren't difficult for Dr. Foster, who has been studying Ghost Particles for a long time.

Because he already had a plan in mind! In Dr. Foster's computer, Peter saw a design drawing for a "Local Quantum" collection device.

It's an instrument used to collect "Local Quantum" in the Quantum Realm after opening the Quantum Realm using a Quantum Tunnel.

Only by collecting them could they be injected into Ava to save her.

Now, he just needed to make a slight modification to this device.

For Dr. Foster, it was a piece of cake.

As for the research on Ghost Particles, Dr. Foster hadn't been slacking off all these years!

That was also the reason why Dr. Foster was so shocked when he saw it!

Because if Peter's model was correct, then with the right materials, he could modify this Phantom Spider Suit in a matter of days!

Dr. Foster plunged into his fervent research.

Ava also guessed from Dr. Foster's excited expression that she might have a better chance of being saved, so she stood to the side, eagerly waiting.

Meanwhile, Peter went to the other side.

Actually, when he was designing it, he was thinking, since Ghost Particles could make people invisible, what about him?

The Second Generation Venom Symbiote also possessed properties similar to Ghost Particles.

It could also enter other parallel universes.

If he collected the quantum from other parallel universes and brought it to this world, then, following the design of the Phantom Spider Suit, could he create his own invisibility suit?

A Phantom Spider Suit?

A super suit with invisibility and wall-crawling abilities!

Peter was incredibly excited!

This was so cool!

He decided, Nano-Spider Four will be called the "Phantom Spider Suit"!

He couldn't wait to rush back to his lab and make this idea a reality.

It took several hours.

Dr. Foster let out a long sigh, looking at Peter with excitement.

He had been surprised when he was researching the Second Generation Venom Symbiote with Peter, mistakenly thinking Spider-Man was an expert.

But he hadn't expected his boss to be so talented, despite his young age!

The wish he had strived for for years was actually conquered after just a brief discussion!

If Dr. Foster's previous collaboration with Peter was just out of financial necessity, then now, he had developed a greater appreciation for this talented young man.

Young, knowledgeable, and wealthy.

This was a proper second-generation Iron Man!

"Following a boss like this seems pretty good?" This thought surfaced in Dr. Foster's mind, and any other thoughts he had previously vanished.

After verifying the feasibility of the plan, Dr. Foster and Ava, the Ghost, also greatly changed their attitude towards Peter.

However, some materials were still missing.

So, Peter contacted his company, and they allocated the first installment of funds.

A total of five million.

His only request was: after Dr. Foster created the real Phantom Spider Suit, he wanted all the data and parameters of the suit.

Dr. Foster readily agreed.

After all, half of the Phantom Spider Suit's success was due to Peter. He provided the funding and initial design ideas, while Dr. Foster was responsible for the specific parameter adjustments and the actual construction.

This was a win-win situation.

As soon as the Phantom Spider Suit was developed, Peter could slightly modify the parameters, integrate them into his own suit, maybe a 10% adjustment at most, and he'd have his very own Phantom Spider Suit!

After having dinner with Dr. Foster and Ava, the Ghost, Peter took his leave.

He had planned to hitch a ride back to New York, but after checking the schedule for the next flight, Peter was a bit stunned.

There weren't many flights from Los Angeles, and the earliest one wasn't until after seven in the evening.

How should he kill these few hours?

Go back to Dr. Foster's lab?

Peter thought about it, but decided against it.

Suddenly, an idea struck him. He remembered "Ant-Man" Scott, whom he'd met a few times during the battle at the Berlin airport.

After the Civil War, Peter found a lot of information about "Ant-Man" in the Avengers' database.

Not just Scott, but also Hank Pym's.

Hank Pym was a former S.H.I.E.L.D. science advisor, entomologist, and quantum physicist. His Pym Particles could change the molecular distance between substances.

Using Pym Particles, he could shrink himself to the size of an ant.

Then, he developed a suit to help him communicate with ants, adopting the codename "Ant-Man."

Later, he discovered that although he retained his normal strength when shrunk, he didn't possess the super strength of Captain America's super-soldier serum.

So, he turned to the giantification experiment, the "Goliath Experiment," which Dr. Foster also participated in.

His wife, Janet van Dyne, also had a similar suit, codenamed "Wasp."

Later, in an accident, Wasp shrunk herself below the subatomic level and disappeared. The original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, then transitioned to running his own company called Pym Industries.

Although Pym Industries wasn't as large as Stark Industries, it was still somewhat well-known on the West Coast.

However, during the Civil War a year ago, because the second Ant-Man, Scott Lang, joined the anti-registration side with Captain America, Hank Pym, who provided him with the Ant-Man suit, was also affected.

Pym Industries was consequently shut down, and Hank Pym and his daughter were completely forced into a life on the run.

Peter expressed deep sympathy for Dr. Hank Pym, who had been dealt a bad hand.

However, he was preparing to seek out Scott Lang.

The Earth's magnetic field provided this City with endless energy, making it move unpredictably like a giant ship at sea, along with the Earth's chaotic electromagnetic field. This was Magneto's City, and also the Mutants' City. Humans couldn't even detect this place because it was hidden deep within the chaotic magnetic field, a Bermuda Triangle that moved. Only Magneto knew how to enter and exit, and only those Mutants who accepted his invitation could enter his City.

Like Professor Charles, he was undoubtedly a leader of the Mutants. However, if Professor Charles was a peace-loving advocate of communication, then Mr. Magneto was a thorough militarist. And he himself was one of the most powerful beings among the Mutants.

If possible, Zhou Yi really didn't want to confront this king among the Mutants. His ability was quite troublesome, even making Zhou Yi lack the confidence to defeat him. According to Zhou Yi's estimate, the best outcome would be a fifty-fifty situation. And this, obviously, was the same as the professor's assessment.

"Professor, you don't mean to have me compete with this famous Mr. Magneto, do you?" Zhou Yi didn't quite understand Professor Charles's intention. No matter from which angle, having him deal with Magneto had exceeded the limits of their relationship.

It was true that he was friends with the Mutants, but not to the point where he would risk his life for their benefit. Don't even say such stupid things like Charles was worried about his student getting into trouble and asked Zhou Yi to solve it. There were countless Mutants in danger in the world, and if he really cared about their safety, he would have asked for his help long ago. He wouldn't have brought it up until now.

For Zhou Yi to help meant that the benefits contained in this request were worth the favor between them.

"I know Erik," Professor Charles saw Zhou Yi's confusion and slowly explained. "We are old friends, and I think I understand him. He is a brilliant genius. We once had the best cooperation in the world. And even today, after we went our separate ways, our beliefs haven't changed. Both he and I are fighting for the survival of the Mutants. It's just that our methods of achieving this belief are different."

"But one thing I can be sure of is that he won't do anything to harm the Mutants. Unless there's a compelling reason. And now he has this reason."

Listening to Professor Charles explain the inside story, Zhou Yi said uncertainly.

"Are you sure Magneto wants to use this so-called Mutant Modification Device to influence all the dignitaries participating in the Summit, so they'll open up various unequal treaties for Mutants? It sounds like a good thing."

"If there were no other side effects, it would indeed be a good thing. But Erik's experiments aren't perfect. This morning, a senator he used as a test subject unfortunately passed away. The cause was genetic collapse."

"Wow! That's really unfortunate news." Zhou Yi was somewhat gloating. He'd heard the name of this senator; he was an extreme anti-Mutant pioneer. He was also a guy Zhou Yi hated, so the news of his death was, in a way, good news.

"It's not as you think," the Professor corrected, seeing through Zhou Yi's thoughts. "This kind of genetic collapse is irreversible. Once Erik uses it at the Summit, all the attendees and innocent bystanders will be in danger of their lives. This could very well lead to war."

"Alright!" Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Zhou Yi straightened his face. "What do you want me to do?"

"To be precise, I'm not asking what you should do. Rather, what do you want Dawn Knight to do?" Professor Charles smiled slyly. Zhou Yi's other identity hadn't escaped the notice of this wise old man.

"I knew I couldn't hide it from you!" Zhou Yi shrugged indifferently. He understood that it would be difficult to keep his identity secret from this old man. As the most powerful psychic in the world, his mental power was enough for him to distinguish between all species. There was no reason for him to ignore Dawn Knight, the popular superhero. Once he entered his mental observation network, all secrets would be revealed. He was prepared for this.

"So, you agree?" This was the final inquiry, reflecting Professor Charles's attitude. He was requesting, not demanding, and the initiative rested with Zhou Yi.

"I have no reason to refuse, do I?" Zhou Yi gave a wry smile, making his position clear. His identity as a superhero made it impossible to decline Professor Charles's offer.

"Don't worry, my young friend." Hearing Zhou Yi's response, the Professor visibly relaxed. "My old friend isn't without his weaknesses. Perhaps there's an easier method for you."

Listening to the old man's plan, Zhou Yi couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for the yet-unseen Magneto. To be schemed against by someone who knew him best, wasn't that a bit pitiful? But thinking about their future relationship, Zhou Yi decisively abandoned that sympathetic feeling.

People always favor themselves, and no one is an exception to that rule.

After discussing the serious matters, Professor Charles silently vanished from Zhou Yi's sight. In an instant, time seemed to resume flowing. The vast disparity made Zhou Yi almost forget there was a poor little fellow standing before him.

The raging flames instantly transformed into countless dancing sparks, yet even that was enough to terrify the Mutant named John. As a student at the school, he had never experienced combat, and he was genuinely traumatized.

However, this was not on Zhou Yi's mind. His thoughts were consumed by Professor Charles's plan. Thinking of Charles's plan, he looked at the elegant manor. It seemed he needed to find a way to resolve the most crucial part as soon as possible. Otherwise, if something went wrong, he wouldn't know how to explain it to Ororo and the others.

Harboring this thought, he simply walked past John. He didn't notice the fire blazing in the young man's eyes. Even if he had, perhaps he wouldn't have cared. After all, they weren't on the same level of existence, with no possibility of ever crossing paths.
