Chapter 65 - Tender Words, Lone Wolf's Interference

"Auroro, my dear Auroro, can you please stop treating me like this!" Zhou Yi embraced Auroro from behind, but she shrugged him off without hesitation. "You make me very sad when you act like this."

"Then why don't you consider how I feel? I'm also upset. Why didn't you discuss such an important matter with me, and instead went straight to the Professor? Do you think it's unnecessary to consult me at all?"

Auroro was very agitated about the news that Zhou Yi was taking a group of students out. Her emotions became even more intense, especially after learning that a new student named Rogue was among the invited students.

"Do you know how dangerous her situation is? We've been trying our best to protect her within the Academy. But you, on the other hand, are just going to take her out. Do you even know who's waiting for her outside?"

"I know!" Rubbing his temples, Zhou Yi found Auroro's reaction a bit of a headache. "Of course, I know who that guy is. The Professor has told me everything."

"You know?" Auroro's voice suddenly rose. "If you know, then why? Wait, you did this on purpose! The Professor asked you to help deal with that person?"

When she said this, even Jean Grey, who had been sitting beside them, feigning indifference, turned her head and looked at him in disbelief.

Under the gazes of the two women, Zhou Yi immediately felt immense pressure. He reluctantly shrugged his shoulders, pretending it wasn't a big deal.

"The Professor said he has a plan and needs a little help from me."

"This is absurd. You shouldn't be involved in this. It's dangerous. I'm going to talk to the Professor." Auroro pushed the door open and walked out before she left the room. She looked at Zhou Yi seriously and said, "Promise me you won't leave here before I get back."

"Of course, I swear!" Zhou Yi held up three fingers, making a solemn oath. Although everyone knew that this guy didn't believe in God, they also knew that his promises had never failed. So, Auroro left with peace of mind.

After she left, Jean Grey turned around and said to Zhou Yi seriously.

"You should know that she's not being unreasonable. She's just too worried about the children and your safety." As Auroro's friend, Jean Grey, despite having another identity that stood between the three of them, was still doing what a friend should do. "You're not like us, you're not a Mutant. Magneto won't show mercy to humans."

"Of course, I understand what kind of person Auroro is. So you don't need to worry about me at all." Zhou Yi walked a few steps closer to Jean Grey, almost touching her face, and asked, "Compared to your worries, I'm more interested in what you're thinking? How does it feel, knowing that I'm about to face the big boss of the Mutant world?"

Jean Grey gently pushed Zhou Yi's chest, who was getting closer and closer, and looked around as if she was guilty. After making sure no one else was around, she lowered her voice and said,

"Are you crazy? This is a school, not a place for you to mess around."

"Alright, I'll be careful to change locations next time." Zhou Yi smirked, but he still wouldn't let it go. "But you have to tell me what you're thinking? Don't tell me you're not worried about me at all, or I'll be heartbroken."

Jean Grey rolled her eyes at this carefree guy and could only answer honestly.

"Alright, I admit it, okay? I'm very worried about you, you bad guy, I'm practically worried to death."

"Excellent!" Zhou Yi rubbed his slightly stubbly chin, smiling like a fox that had stolen a chicken. "To be so cherished by the beautiful Miss Jean Grey is truly an honor for me. Doesn't that also mean that this humble person, who has caught the eye of Miss Jean Grey, can be considered an outstanding man?"

"You sure know how to talk!" Jean Grey laughed at Zhou Yi's somewhat exaggerated words.

Strictly speaking, her relationship with Zhou Yi was a bit too ambiguous. But neither of them felt that way. On the one hand, it was because their relationship was never made public, and on the other hand, it was because they both enjoyed this clandestine feeling.

Men always have a desire to stray. And women are not exactly docile cats either. Although she felt a bit sorry for her nominal boyfriend, to be honest, Zhou Yi really thought that gloomy guy didn't deserve Jean Grey. He was far inferior to himself.

Their conversation continued, but it had already shifted from their personal feelings to other matters. After all, this was still a school with many eyes and ears, and neither of them wanted to be too obvious and make things difficult for each other. Besides, even the closest of people need some common topics and hobbies to maintain their relationship.

Just like now, from an outsider's perspective, they appeared to be engaged in academic research on current affairs and cutting-edge technology. However, in their eyes, they were using this shared topic to deepen their relationship.

"I heard Osborn Industries has made a breakthrough in their advanced genetic research. Do you know anything about it?"

"The data Osborn Industries sent me indicates some progress in Genetic Engineering. They seem to have completed initial experiments on a type of small insect, reportedly creating a Super Spider. But unfortunately, it's just a deception to show to outsiders."

"How so?" Jean Grey adopted a posture of attentiveness. As a Mutant, she possessed a highly advanced understanding in this field, but due to her identity, she wasn't accepted by most scientists. Without a suitable social circle, it was difficult for her to obtain first-hand, cutting-edge information. Therefore, she needed Zhou Yi to provide her with much of her information and research materials.

This was also an important method Zhou Yi used to get closer to this intellectual beauty in the early days. Even now, with their close relationship, this method remained an important way to maintain their connection.

"This Genetic Engineering project started a long time ago, but after the researcher who initiated the project unfortunately passed away, it has essentially been stagnant for over a decade. Even those few little spiders were the work of that deceased gentleman."

"Is that so? What a pity," Jean Grey sighed, a little regretfully. The world of science was like that. Mediocre talents could only maintain the status quo, but couldn't generate momentum. Those who truly propelled scientific development were always those geniuses who far surpassed their peers.

"Indeed, it's a great pity. But Osborn has another guy with decent skills, and his experimental projects seem to have made some progress as well. And it's also in the field of bioengineering."

"Osborn Industries always seems to be researching bioengineering. I don't know whether they're an arms dealer or a medical company," Wei Wei grumbled about Osborn's situation. Jean Grey's beautiful eyes flickered, and she said playfully, "Let me guess, who's this guy you think is pretty good?"

"Go ahead, do you need a little hint?" Zhou Yi leaned against the desk, changing to a slightly more comfortable position to continue chatting.

"No need at all!" The light in Jean Grey's eyes twinkled slightly, and she quickly got the answer she wanted. "Is it Professor Curt Connors? I read his articles a long time ago. He has quite unique insights into the research of biological regeneration, but it's a pity that he doesn't seem to be progressing very smoothly."

"It's said that he has already achieved some results on animals, but he's still observing," Zhou Yi acknowledged Jean Grey's guess and explained in more detail. "He seems to have found the regeneration factor in the Lizard Gene and has already carried out the extraction work. However, his experiments cannot be further developed due to the current situation of the company."

"What happened? Is there a problem with Osborn Industries?" If a giant international company has problems, it will affect all aspects of society. Even Mutants will care about their survival because they also invisibly affect the lives of Mutants.

"The Osborn Family has always had congenital genetic diseases, and the current Mr. Osborn seems to be on his last legs." He shrugged, expressing his helplessness about the current situation. "In order to maintain the stability of the company, the shareholders have now unanimously decided to stop all unnecessary development experiments until the company stabilizes."

"Well, it seems Professor Connors' dream will have to wait for quite some time." Jean Grey expressed her sympathy. Curt Connors is an extremely rare disabled scientist, and the biggest goal of his research project is to cure his disability. And once the experiment is shelved, it means he is one step further away from his recovery. This is a tragic thing for anyone.

"There's nothing we can do, we need to consider more," Zhou Yi, as a shareholder, couldn't do anything either. After all, the stability of a large company is related to the employment of tens of thousands of people, so he had to be cautious. In comparison, Professor Connors' personal problems are much less important.

Understanding Zhou Yi's awkward position, Jean Grey didn't pursue that topic further, instead shifting the conversation. She asked about Zhou Yi's experiences while traveling. The two continued their enthusiastic exchange until someone walked in.

"Teacher Jean, are you here?" The person who entered was a man of average height but quite muscular.

He had a very distinctive hairstyle and beard, giving him a wild, beast-like appearance. This, combined with his rugged features, made him exude the aura of a mature man. The subtle air of a soldier he unconsciously displayed further added to his appeal.

Zhou Yi noticed some of his small movements, such as his casual glances around the room and the sniff he took. These indicated that this guy didn't have a strong sense of security. Judging by the strong posture he displayed, he was either a man-child hiding something, or he had experienced too much that was heavy for him, leaving him deeply wary.

"Is he a friend of yours?" Zhou Yi asked Jean Grey, tilting his head towards the man who had entered.

Jean Grey stood up and introduced them to each other.

"Yi, let me introduce you. This is Logan, a Mutant who just arrived at the school. Logan, this is Zhou Yi. He's not a Mutant, but his sister is one of us. So, he's always had a good relationship with us."

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Logan. I'm Zhou Yi. I believe we'll get to know each other better in the future."
