Chapter 15 - Not Letting Go

"It is not your business at all. Please wait inside while I get dressed," Conor said. Kelly wasn't able to replicate the smile.

"Is it true that you have consented to accompany me?" As soon as they entered the house, Kelly asked.

Conor was about to head back upstairs to his room when he came back to the living room. "I just had a remarkable thought. Why did I need so much time to think of it?"

"What?" Kelly asked, unsure.

Conor hurried to the bar to get a bottle of vodka and said, "Get on the phone with my father." He filled a glass with some and took a sip.

"You want to talk to your father on the phone. But why? He is presently in the hospital, as I just mentioned. Do you believe I would tell you a lie?" Kelly swore.

His patience with Conor was over. The reason George was insistent on allowing Conor to sign the hospital's consent form now made sense to him.

"I believe I don't owe you an explanation. Don't stand there and ask me a stupid question. Just call right away," Conor yelled, smashing the vodka bottle to the floor to demonstrate his rage.

He took a step toward Kelly, his heart full of hate. "Now, are you doubting my commands? What on earth do you think you are? Would you mind having your head kicked?"

Kelly was unflinching despite the broken bottle on the floor. He did not run away, and he did not even creep back.

"That does not seem likely to happen. If you dare touch me, how about you spend the rest of your life behind bars?"

Kelly retaliated. He proved that he wasn't scared of Conor's rage.

Katrina still hasn't stated the reason for her return. This is beginning to mess with George's head.

"I see you want to marry my son.

What caused the abrupt change of Mind now? Was it your father who persuaded you to do this? Or you simply give it some thought and decide that it was the right decision?" George asked.

The pressure Katrina applied was sufficient to permanently silence him. He was fortunate to be able to escape it.

"My dear George, nothing has changed.

That I had agreed to marry him was also something I never told you." Katrina defended herself. She finds the conversation fascinating and captivating.

George, with his long frown, cannot be said to be in the same category. He felt like hitting Katrina in the head because he was so furious.

George bemoaned sourly, like a pitiful widow, "To be honest with you, I do not love this game you are playing with me."

Despite his intense anger towards Katrina, he made every effort to refrain from shouting at her. He feared that if he did, his heart might break off.

"Do you believe I take pleasure in sitting around a man who denied my family the life we merited?" Katrina hit back at George. She wasn't ready to back out anytime soon.

" How much farther do you think this can go? You think you can shatter me, do you? It will never happen, so stop trying," George boasted. Katrina was commended by him for her effort as well.

To be honest, I have no idea what you are discussing. Your son is not the subject of my discussion. He does not concern me.

Instead, I am here because of my father, and I would advise you to listen to me as we continue our conversation." She finally got it right and spared George the trouble of figuring out what she was thinking.

George frowns, "Oh, no, here we go again about your father."

Although Katrina may have shifted the subject to defuse the tension, George knows in his heart that things have gotten worse, particularly when it comes to the conversation about Kelly.

They had previously gotten into a heated argument over that exact reason.

"Do not grow weary of it just yet. I have not done anything wrong. You must maintain your composure and relax your nerves during this section." Katrina quips. She now appears more composed than George.

George was silent. The awkward way he looked at Katrina and moved his body was enough to convey the message.

"Get out of my ward." George dismissed Katrina.

"My recovery is being hampered by your presence. With you around, I cannot even focus." Like a ten-year-old, George freaked out.

He had finished being kind to Katrina. He does not mind if it pulls his heart out in the process.

"I would like to know how you two got started. This is a question regarding your friendship with my father.

Make sure you give me all the information I require. Be sure to deliver your speech with fluidity and refrain from keeping me guessing." Katrina demanded like a Boss.

As if she wanted to see a big-budget film at the theatre, she settled herself comfortably in the chair.

The moment had come for her to go get a bowl of popcorn and watch the lovely tale.

"Seriously? I can now tell you are mentally ill. Do you know I am old enough to be your dad?" George schooled her.

"Your ability to be my father at this age has nothing to do with this. It was merely an innocent inquiry." Katrina defended herself.

"I believed you were trying to say something significant. You pulled me into the suspense just to say rubbish, and I cannot believe it. You must have the courage to pull that prank on me," George's temper blows hot. He can't control his emotions anymore.

"I should probably call security to drag you out like a piece of garbage. Would you mind doing that?" George made Katrina feel threatened.

Though it was intended to evoke the spirit of fear in Katrina, George found it to be a futile endeavour. She continued talking and did not turn away in terror.

She gave him her full attention. "You made a clear error, so you might want to rephrase what you said. "

"Are you certain you want to dismiss me by calling the doctor? Considering that I might not be the only one sent outside. Conor has not arrived with my father yet," With a cheeky laugh, she returned to her seat.

Georgie gnawed his teeth and braced his fist to strike Katrina, but the laughter was enough to pierce his already wounded heart.
