Chapter 17 - Tug Of War

"When did she suddenly become more important than my father?

It is not like you wanted to speak with her. If you wanted to do that, you should have answered the phone a long time ago.

So what the fuck are you spitting now?' Conor screamed in a loud voice, almost drowning Kelly in his saliva.

Kelly remained silent for a while to regain his momentum. He never yelled or retaliated violently against Conor.

He reasoned that engaging Conor in a heated argument would not solve the problem.

_________" Can you see for yourself right now? Thankfully, everything happened right in front of your eyes. I warned you, but you did not listen. My father, your friend, has refused to answer the phone. What do you think I should do now?" Katrina lamented to George, who had already planned to speak to Kelly. He never expected such disappointment.

"Contact him again. Do you really expect me to give up now? I do not want to believe your father would deliberately ignore your call.

Something could be wrong. This was precisely why I wanted you to contact him; I was concerned that he would not return my call,' George ordered.

George is optimistic, unlike Katrina, who has given up hope on her father answering the phone.

His faith was more steadfast than ever.

_____

Kelly suggested, "He is your father; he will not ignore your call." He was tired of taking orders from Conor, who had only been rude to him.

"Should I phone my father?" Conor made a lighthearted imitation of Kelly. He also did it in a rude manner to offend Kelly and get on his nerves.

"Sometimes I wonder what you think.

You do believe my father would want to speak with me. " Conor poured out his frustration at Kelly as they went back and forth.

It was supposed to be a rhetorical question, but Kelly gave the most provocative response ever. "I would not answer the phone if I were your father.

Do you have any idea what I am going to do? I will report you to the police for stalking me."

After responding, he stepped back and returned Katrina's missed calls. To his surprise, she answered the phone as if she had been waiting for him to call. "I did not receive your call, my dear daughter. Are you currently at home? What would you like to discuss?"

"Dad, I apologize for disappointing you, but I did not go home. I returned to the hospital," Katrina explained.

Kelly questioned his Daughter's credibility. "I did not raise you that way, and you are aware of that."

Kelly was also surprised by her return to the hospital. He could swear she had gone home.

"Now, this is the pinnacle of everything. I cannot believe you would question me." Katrina got pissed off.

Conor grabbed the phone from Kelly's ear before Katrina could say anything more.

Kelly was furious with Conor for nearly damaging his eardrum and attempting to snatch the phone.

Kelly, on the other hand, remained silent because he knew Conor only wanted to speak with his father.

It would have been preferable if he had asked nicely.

Conor spoke on the phone as he turned away from Kelly. "I just heard you mention that my father is with you. Please pass the phone over to him. I must talk to him right now."

Although the call was still active, no voice could be heard.

"Do you have hearing loss? I told you I needed to talk to my father. Why are you silent?" Conor erupted in fury.

Even the pressure of his voice was insufficient to compel Katrina to speak. She pretended she was not on the phone with anyone.

"Why is your daughter speaking to me? Has she suddenly lost her hearing?" Conor m vented his rage on Kelly, who did not offend him for a second.

"Like, really?

Will you be angry with me because of what my daughter did to you? Gosh!" Kelly nodded in response and took a seat on the sofa.

Conor became incensed.

As he prepared to cause a schism between himself and Kelly, he heard a ferocious voice on the phone, forcing him to abandon his dangerous plans for Kelly.

"Are you saying something, Dad?" Conor questioned. The voice was too deep to sound like Katrina's

"Were you going to harm my friend? How did you become a beast?" George questioned Conor as he spoke directly to the point.

"I have no idea what you are talking about, Dad. You are not with me right now. How could you tell if I intended to hurt him?" Conor denied it right away, without considering his response.

George let out a sigh over the telephone. "I am your father. I know a lot about you that you are unaware of, so do not dare lie to me."

"Take it seriously, Dad.

"You are not going to believe me anyway." Conor hissed.

"Adjust yourself, son.

I am not interested in what you have to say in your defence," George said, quickly changing the subject.

He knew that arguing with Conor would not produce a positive outcome.

"I think my excellent friend, Kelly, told you something, didn't you?" George began the main discussion.

Kelly smiled as he licked his lips. This was the moment he had waited for.

"Why haven't you shown up yet? I cannot believe you will be so calm after hearing that I had a panic attack."

"That is because I received my conditions. You do not expect me to just turn up at the hospital, do you? Conor chuckled.

"Is this a prank?"

George spoke in a weaker tone.

"Dad!" Conor cut George off with a commanding tone. This time, he stopped laughing and decided to take things seriously.

"If you want me to come over and take you to the hospital and sign the stupid consent form, you must unfreeze my bank account and return everything you took from me because I refused to marry Katrina," Conor demanded.

"You are unwell.

Hand over the phone to my friend. I need to speak with him," George ordered.

He was not even paying attention to Conor's unreasonable request.

"I am not passing the phone to anyone," he stated unequivocally.

"Are you even paying attention to me right now? Because it is abundantly clear that you are not."

George clarified, "I am not going to accept your demand."

"Then you should prepare to be kicked out of the hospital for good because there is no way I am going to show up there and sign some useless consent form," Conor vowed.

He hung up the phone and tossed it on the couch, frustrated. Fortunately for Kelly, the phone was not damaged.

Kelly was not upset with Conor for throwing his phone on the sofa.

Rather, he was relieved that his phone was not damaged.

When Kelly picked up the phone, the first call came from George.

George made sure to call Kelly personally this time because he was confident she would answer.

"Are you still involved with him?" George asked a question. He sounded so calm, as if he were prepared to meet Conor's demands.

"Yes." Kelly replied, "He is currently being drenched in liquor."
