Conor's taunting penetrates deep into Kelly's skin to the point where he wishes to step down from the car and trek back home. He's done trying to please George and getting hurt simultaneously.
Unfortunately for Conor, his threat wasn't enough to scare Kelly away.
Until they drove to the hospital, Kelly and Conor never said a word to each other. These two have proven to be sworn enemies.
All that mattered to Kelly was making Conor sign the consent form. After which he won't even speak to Conor anymore.
At this point, he's contemplating sanctioning Katrina's wedding to Conor. Kelly can't imagine having a rude fellow like Conor for an in-law.
"Once we arrive in my father's ward, you are not allowed to speak unless you are being asked a question. I should do all the talking," Conor instructed Kelly as they arrived at the hospital. He ordered Kelly to let him take charge of the situation.
According to Conor, "He's my father. I understand him better than anyone."
Kelly nodded in response. "Yes, sir. Your wish is my command. You don't have to worry about anything. Is there anything else you would want me to do for you?"
Deep down, Kelly knew there was no way he would adhere to those silly instructions. He is just trying to stick to the game plan. It's a mockery and nothing more.
As they walked inside the hospital, the first person they encountered was Doctor Escobar.
They met him the moment he stepped out of the hospital. The doctor pretends not to see anyone.
"Isn't that Doctor Escobar? Why did he ignore me?" Kelly muttered to himself.
The snub was disheartening to him. He didn't recall having a beef with Doctor Escobar.
A few hours ago, these two were on talking terms. Nothing strange.
"So what? Who cares? We're here now, and that's what matters," Conor frowned. He had barely just arrived at the hospital, and his legs were hurting as though he'd been standing for hours.
Not convinced of what he's witnessing, Kelly rushes to meet Doctor Escobar. He kept on calling for the doctor's return.
Doctor Escobar walked faster with his short legs as though he was engaged in a hot pursuit.
Trailing the doctor, Kelly discovered that he wasn't heading to George's ward. That's one part that messed with Kelly's head.
"Where could he be heading to?"
The question plagued Kelly's mind.
"Could it be that he already kicked George out of the hospital like he said?" Kelly muttered to himself. That's the only thing his brain can process.
Luckily for Kelly, he was able to catch up with Doctor Escobar. And when he did, his strength was gone. He held his chest while struggling to breathe.
"Where's my friend?
Did you kick him out as promised?" Kelly asked with great enthusiasm. He hasn't been this focused before in his entire life.
"I don't understand your question. I can't recall telling you that I kicked him out. How did you arrive at your conclusion?" Doctor Escobar fumed. He hated the fact that Kelly misquoted him.
Kelly quickly apologised and urged them to proceed. He's done arguing with Doctor Escobar.
He just wants to accomplish the mission he came for and nothing more.
Kelly pointed to Conor, who was approaching them, as George's son. "He'd be signing the consent form. I guess that part is sorted out already."
In normal circumstances, the doctor would kick George out of the hospital.
The delayed time was the turnoff. He's the kind of doctor who always loves sticking to time.
Kelly pleaded for a pardon. This means a lot to him. He knew it was that time when he needed to stay humble just to get what he wanted.
"What's going on here? Where's my father? Where can I sign the consent form?" Conor asked after he joined them.
Doctor Escobar and Kelly never responded as they both shared a telling look. They both seem to have the same thoughts running through their heads.
They both have one observation about Conor: his approach.
"Can you please teach this boy some manners?! Gosh! I can't stand him." Doctor Escobar walked to the office after the instruction.
Conor was furious about the way he was being treated by the doctor. He has every reason to believe that Kelly and the Doctor planned it.
Perhaps that's Kelly's way of getting back at Conor for how the latter treated him like a piece of shit in recent times.
"I accept the responsibility. Can we go now?" Kelly pleaded and took the fall for Doctor Escobar's outrageous act towards Conor. Kelly can't imagine losing Conor at this crucial moment.
He was doing everything possible to make Conor put a finishing touch on the consent form.
"Fine! I agree with you, but if he dares to try to speak to me in that tone of voice again, I will leave and never return," Conor warned as he finally accepted.
As they arrived at Doctor Escobar's office, Kelly apologised on behalf of Conor, even though that wasn't the plan.
Conor would have wished for Doctor Escobar to render the apology instead.
Doctor Escobar sighed. He had already prepared his utterances before Kelly's apology returned the words to his mouth and sealed his lips.
"Sign here." Escobar passed the consent form.
"We are done now.
I guess I am allowed to leave."
Conor stood up.
"You're just going to leave like that? Without seeing your father?" Doctor Escobar asked.
He already promised not to get himself involved in Conor's affairs anymore.
However, this one seemed too crucial to be overlooked. He can't seem to fathom how a son wouldn't care about his father's health condition.
"Who made you the judge over my life?" Conor clapped back just when Kelly thought it wouldn't get any worse. Kelly exempted himself from the chaos and took no side with anyone.
"Kelly, can you please say something?
Maybe he would listen to you." Doctor Escobar backed off to allow Kelly to handle the situation.
"Conor," Kelly initiated the conversation with. He felt guilty for letting Doctor Escobar handle that situation alone.
