Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 — Expose Their Affair at the Wedding

When I came to again, I was lying on an operating table. The doctor's voice was cold and detached: "The fetus is gone. We have to perform a dilation and curettage now. Miss Su, prepare yourself."

After the operation I called him. He said he was busy negotiating an important deal.Broken and hollow, I insisted I had to see him.

When he stormed into the hospital, there was not a trace of concern on his face—only contempt."Su Wan, how long are you going to make a scene?" he snapped.

I swallowed the words that would have told him we had lost our child.I stared at that once-handsome face—how it had changed from gentle to repulsive.

"What are you staring at? Is this the surgery you mentioned? What surgery did you have?"Fresh from the operation, my abdomen felt as if knives were churning inside; the pain was unbearable.

Faced with his interrogation, Su Ning'an's words echoed in my mind.Grief had turned to utter despair; I no longer wanted to explain. Only hatred filled me.I had already asked to call off the engagement—if he wanted to be with someone else, that was his choice. I could not stop him.Yet he had pulled me back, promised to cut ties with Su Ning'an, and I believed him. If I had walked away then, I wouldn't have become pregnant. He could hurt me, but why drag the innocent child into it?

I clenched the sheet until my knuckles whitened; uncontrollable tears fell from my chin.Seeing my ashen face and the cold sweat on my brow, he finally sensed something amiss."Wanwan, are you in pain?" he asked.

If this had been the old days I might have argued. Now my mind was filled only with boundless hate. What had I done to deserve being trampled by him and Su Ning'an? Why must an innocent child become a pawn in their games?

The sutra was right: from love comes sorrow, from love comes fear. I had become a revenant clawing out of hell, demanding retribution. I would make them pay a deadly price to mourn my lost child.

I was admitted to the Su family's private clinic—Su Ning'an had the audacity to act so brazenly because everything had been arranged in advance.Even if I spoke the truth, she had "evidence" prepared to discredit me.If Lu Shiyan chose to believe me, the truth could be uncovered—but his heart belonged only to Su Ning'an now.She grasped that and relied on his unwillingness to look deeper; he took her side after hearing only her one-sided story.I had endured her methods many times before. This time I would not be foolish.

I understood that all her schemes aimed to force me to back down and relinquish the engagement so she could take my place legitimately.I would never give her that chance.

I swallowed my grief and kept the miscarriage a secret. That was my trump card. Only by exposing Su Ning'an's true face would my miscarriage become a bombshell—otherwise it would be twisted away as it had so many times before: minimized, dismissed, taken up again as petty family drama until the world let it pass.

When my tears would not stop, Lu Shiyan finally panicked."Don't cry. Is it my fault I haven't visited? I've been busy with a major project," he said, trying to explain.

His words showed that, despite everything, he could not entirely sever the years between us."Shiyan, I had a dream that you didn't love me anymore. I was so scared," I whispered.

"Don't think such things, how could I not love you?" he soothed.

Su Ning'an had expected me to cause a scene and ruin the wedding. She timed her entrance to gloat—only to find me clinging to Lu Shiyan, our faces drained of color. From that day I changed. I was determined to gather proof of their clandestine affair.

Even though Su Ning'an had used countless tricks, the most she had managed recently was a kiss in private; Lu Shiyan had not crossed that final line—yet. But such incidents were enough for her to mock me. She would deliberately send me suggestive photos and chat logs, then retract them; foolishly, she never realized I screenshoted and recorded everything.

I was planning a grand performance: I would expose Lu Shiyan and Su Ning'an at our wedding banquet.
