Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 — I Never Expected the First Person to Look for Me After My Death Was Him

When the car came to a stop, I snapped back to reality. We had arrived at the riverbank.

There was another Maybach parked next to Lu Shiyan's car. Who, in this bitter cold, would come to the riverside and endure the chill?

Returning to the scene of the incident, my emotions were a tumult of confusion. I remembered dragging my heavy wedding dress across the riverbank, feeling hollow and lifeless as I walked.

Although I hated him to my very core, the years we had shared weren't something that could be severed in a few days. His escape from the wedding, his disdain, and his anger—yes, but more than that, it was the overwhelming disappointment.

In the end, between me and Su Ning'an, he chose her.

Watching him leave, I was finally given a reason to completely hate him.

At that time, I was filled with despair, so consumed by it that I didn't even notice the person who had silently appeared behind me until the sharp blade plunged into my body. Looking down, I saw the knife's blade piercing through me.

I was in a daze at that moment.

I saw where I had collapsed. I couldn't feel pain anymore, but instinctively, my hand reached for my wound.

I had lost so much blood last night, but the turbulent river had washed it all away.

I checked my surroundings carefully. There was no sign of my phone or anything else scattered in the water.

"Uncle, when did you return to the country?" Lu Shiyan's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

I looked up to see a man in a wheelchair by the riverside.

A black wool coat accentuated his pale complexion, and his face, delicate to the point of being almost otherworldly, captured my gaze.

With just a glance, the man's icy stare was enough to send chills down your spine.

He was the result of a fleeting affair of Old Master Lu's from abroad, inheriting his mother's golden hair and blue eyes.

Handsome. Enigmatic.

Though Old Master Lu had a son late in life, this child was a secret, an illegitimate son, raised overseas, and rarely returned to the country.

Though he was only a few years older than Lu Shiyan, a chilling air always surrounded him, as though he existed outside the flow of time.

From the first time I saw him, I was afraid of him. Fate, however, had a cruel sense of irony—several times when I was in danger, it was him who saved me.

For instance, during that tsunami, when I thought I was going to drown in the ocean, his commercial ship appeared just in time, rescuing me and sending me back to the Su family.

I had personally written the wedding invitation and sent it with carefully selected thank-you gifts to him overseas. Rumor had it that he had become a prominent businessman, having separated from the Lu family and made a name for himself. He had never had a good relationship with the Lu family, and I never expected him to come to our wedding.

Lu Yanchen lazily raised his gaze, his eyes landing on Lu Shiyan's face. His voice was cold and cutting. "Do I need to explain my presence to you?"

Lu Shiyan, clearly intimidated by this uncle, who was both paralyzed and known for his ruthless methods, was quick to reply, "Of course not. I was just curious—why would Uncle be here, in such cold winds, by the river?"

Lu Yanchen's lips twitched, a slight smirk forming. "I'm also curious. You're newly married and don't stay with your wife, but instead, come here to freeze? How interesting."

Lu Shiyan awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "Don't mind me, Uncle. Su Wen's temper is a bit... hot-headed, and she's been giving me trouble."

At that moment, I saw the look of mockery in Lu Yanchen's eyes. "I don't think it's just her temper. She's blind, marrying scum like you."

"Uncle!" Lu Shiyan's face turned pale.

Lu Yanchen didn't spare him a glance, but lazily gave an order. "Ajì, let's go."

The tall man behind him, with a scar running across his brow, began to push the wheelchair, taking deliberate steps over the uneven stones.

Lu Shiyan clenched his fists at his sides, staring at the wheelchair. "Uncle, in the end, Su Wen was the one who married me."

I froze, confused by his sudden words. What did he mean by that? After all, I didn't have any significant interactions with Lu Yanchen.
