Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 — Have You Found Su Wan’s Body?

I was going to ruin them and then leave this nauseating city—have nothing more to do with them for the rest of my life.

Everything had been set to unfold according to my plan. But I never expected Lu Shiyan to walk out of the wedding, and Su Ning'an didn't even show up.Without the two leads present, what meaning did my exposure have? I had to abort the plan and look for another chance.

I never imagined I would die that night, much less that I would witness his betrayal with Su Ning'an as a wandering soul.I lost—utterly and completely. How can a dead person ever outfight the living? I couldn't win his heart, nor avenge my child. In love, I had been a total failure.

Even my death meant nothing to Lu Shiyan. I followed him as a ghost, watching him carry on to work as usual, as if my existence—or absence—made no difference. All those years of deep feeling had been wasted. I regretted with a burning clarity: why had I ever loved him?

That evening the Su family hosted a banquet.Su Ning'an arrived in a pale-pink dress, looped her arm through his, and sweetly called, "Gege."With that public display, Lu Shiyan felt awkward and reflexively pushed her away."An'an, stop it. Don't make your sister jealous."

My parents hurriedly smoothed things over with smiles. "That dead girl Su Wan is so petty—she even gets jealous of her own sister. Who knows what ugly thoughts she's harbouring."My brothers fondly ruffled Su Ning'an's hair. "Yes, she's so pure and innocent—nothing like your sister."

Hearing my parents and brothers heap praise on Su Ning'an while trampling me, I could only laugh inwardly. What bride seduces her brother-in-law on her wedding night and is still called pure and innocent?

Of course my voice could no longer be heard, and the incriminating evidence I had collected—proof of their intimacy—had vanished with my phone when I died.

Lu Shiyan scanned the crowd and asked, "Su Wan? Has she not come back yet?"So he had assumed I'd returned home, indifferent to the fact that the family had turned against me. How could I possibly go back to a place that treated me like an enemy when I was wounded?

Mother's expression shifted. "Is she still sulking? I thought she had gone back to him."So even the police visit had left no trace of concern. I felt nothing but pity: I had never harmed them, yet they greeted my death with such blandness.

My eldest brother, still thinking of the policeman's words, felt a sudden unease. "Maybe she really was distraught—let's contact the police again, check for clues…"Su Ning'an bowed her head and sobbed softly, "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have called Gege yesterday. I didn't mean to ruin my sister's wedding. I didn't expect her to sulk and disappear."

Immediately the crowd closed in again, taking her crying as proof and tossing aside their brief concern for me.Lu Shiyan's brow darkened further. For once he didn't join in the chorus of scorn.

After dinner he instinctively went to my room. I watched him move through the familiar room—did he think of me at all? His face was shadowed, distant. He lit a cigarette and, exhaling smoke, called his assistant.

"What's the result? Have they found Su Wan's body?"
