Synopsis
An ordinary student with a life just as ordinary, with aspirations and dreams as normal as people hold dearly. That was the being Cale Dice embodied for his entire 15 years of living, only after touching a mysterious envelope sitting in wait to be torn open did that normality end. Eyes shut tight once and in the next moment he stood with what once was a majestic school hall, the scent wafting off of hazel timber distorted facial features, a place full of the unordinary. That was Gardenia, a world fully lacerated from the real world, a world where gods freely make their domains at the edges, not drawing an inch closer to the nucleus. To even reach the real Gardenia, Cale had to pass the screening trial he now was faced with, all while surrounded by malformed creatures that fueled nightmares themselves. And that.. would only be the beginning to his turbulent path to becoming the ‘Top’ Student of Gardenia

Chapter 1 - Prolugue

In a dimly lit room, light from the outside world relentlessly trialed to pierce through the already drawn curtains, such attempts however proved futile in the end.

Ha

Ha

Soft breaths huffed from a bed covered with a thin blanket over.

Pop!

Suddenly, popping out of the blanket, a head lazily got out of the warm and cozy blanket.

"Ugh"

The blankets revealed a young man, struggling to get out of his bed.

His eyelids pressed down heavy and tired, threatening to close in on him again.

"What time is it?"

The young man reached out for his phone that laid squarely on the table next to his bed.

[8:40]

"!"

In an instant, all of the drowsiness he felt in his eyes disappeared and his expression turned lively with newfound fume.

"Oh come on! Give me a break!"

'I'm gonna be late for school!'

Click!

Switching the lights on, the light blinded his vision for a few moments but despite that, he went to the small table that positioned itself next to his bed and grabbed the water bottle that laid there.

Gulp

He gulped all of the contents down to its last drop.

"Hua"

Feeling refreshed, his mind cleared up the fog that grounded his thoughts.

'This seriously can't be happening, I even slept earlier than usual at [2:00 AM] yet this still happens?'

Cale Dice proudly claimed, thinking that falling asleep at 2 am was the norm when going to the first day of school.

"Am I cursed with Luck deprivation or something?"

No he was not, he was simply stupid.

Quickly, gliding along the floor, he reached his checkered white-black closet and changed clothes in record time. Taking a moment to ponder using perfume, he spritzed himself lightly upon the nape of his neck it.

Memories of pouring the entire perfume bottle on himself when he was a kid hauntingly reminded the lesson.

"Anymore and its overkill"

Rushing to the restroom he brushed his white teeth In a delicate but rushed manner, he couldn't waste any more time and quickly filled his mouth with water to rinse his mouth.

Leaving the restroom, he grabbed his backpack, keys and lock and left hurriedly.

Cale, sprinting out of his apartment and almost losing his bus which coincidentally was also late, reached it, dragging labored breaths along with steps.

"Huff Huff"

'See? I'm not the only who was late, even the bus ran late'

He tried to comfort himself with sweet seductive words, though the bus driver being late was the only reason he wouldn't be late, he still wanted to blame it.

Handing a ticket to the bus driver, he took a seat close to the corner.

He wanted to sit in the far back but couldn't take the seat because-

"And you know what I told him after that?"

Ears perked to the drama being spoken.

"What?"

"Stop harassing me! or else I will cut off your manhood!"

Beads of sweat begun forming and trickle on Cale's forehead at the disturbing conversation his ears had the misfortune of hearing.

'Do they not have a filter?'

The teenager girls kept spewing their deep and hidden intrusive thoughts, that even made Cale start to shiver at some point. Taking deep breaths to calm his racing heart from the running, he tried to Ignore the girls in the back.

'That was close'

Cale's breathing stabilized as the bus drew closer to his School, the undisputed number one in the town.

Parrot High School.

After a few minutes he sat up from his seat, the bus driver understood that this was Cale's stop and opened the door of the bus with a press of a button.

Scrrrrrr

The doors slid and opened with a grating screech, yet the bus doors opened in a fluid motion.

Getting off of the bus, the previous girls passed by him and giggled to themselves, their laughter pure and full of joy, leaving the pondering Cale behind and take in the visually pleasing school.

'Hmmm, it's bigger than I expected?'

"I'm going to spend Three whole Years here?, It's not too bad actually"

Walking through the small gates of the School and pulling out his phone put of his front pocket, he checked the e-mail the school had sent to him yesterday at night.

Moving his legs inside of the School, he started to look for his locker that would accompany him for the next three years.

'My locker is...A67'

He leisurely walked around the place, passing by a few rushing teachers and faculty with only the locker being the priority.

'A67 A67 A67....Where is- Ah here'

All movement abruptly stopped at the locker Cale was looking for. It looked compact and small which he didn't have much of a problem with.

'At least no one sprayed any paint on it'

He opened the locker. Not that he had expected anything to be in there. It was only just too see if his Backpack could fit in there.

But something completely unexpected filled Cale's vision, his eyes slightly dilated at the foreign object, his mouth nonetheless spoke his confused mind for him.

"Hmm? An Envelope? And there Is a long white hair strand?"

His dominant right hand stroked his chin in a delicate yet quaking manner, Cale couldn't keep his hands steady for ever since he could remember.

"A love letter perhaps? Like those in old romance novels?"

Delusional thoughts crept in, for reference, Cale was thinking the love letter was directed to the previous owner of the locker, not him

'I don't even know who my classmates are, and while I do have some friends from Middle School, including girls. I don't think many came to this school'

Most of his classmates from what he heard either moved out of town and went to someplace better, or just went to the 5th general high school, which was second to the school Cale went to

'Did the janitor miss it whilst cleaning?'

"No, that doesn't make much sense, does it?"

'The janitor would have thoroughly cleaned out the entire school, including the lockers'

"There is no way he missed cleaning this specific locker for three straight months"

'So, was it the school then?'

The School that Cale goes to does send an e-mail to all of Its first year students ahead of time to tell each, which locker they will have and which classroom they should go to for each subject. In other words, only the school and Cale knew which locker he had.

No one else could possible know unless they bribed the school to tell them, which made even less sense in this deprived context.

This means that this Envelope has been in that locker for at least before the previous school year ended.

Eyes flickered with curiosity, blazing intensely like the sun.

"I don't think the school would send me a letter when they can just, well...send an e-mail..."

As he was about to grasp at the mysterious Envelope that cozied itself at home in his locker.

Tok Tok!

"!"

Suddenly, an all too familiar figure was felt jumping onto Cale's broad back, forcing him to lean forward and piggyback them.

Cale snapped and raised his voice, veins grew prominent on his forehead.

"Hey! What the hell! You can't keep jumping on my back expecting me every time to keep my balance!"

Cale wasn't wrong, if he were to truly lose balance, not only him but the other person would be hurt in the process as well.

"But you didn't, did you?"

The figure said, almost as if it were natural, given how sturdy and bulky Cale was, not to mention that he was also considerably fast.

"...."

Turning his head, Cale stared at the open window in front of him, seeing the beautiful sunrise in the distance.

"The open window next to me suddenly looks really beautiful"

He monologued to himself, however he said this loud enough for the figure on top of him to hear.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

A dazzling smile decorated Cale's features.

"It's supposed to mean 'If you don't get off my back right now I will throw you out of that window' Gabriel"

"O-Okay, calm down"

The boy named Gabriel gently gets off Cale's back, taking a few steps back away.

"What are you talking about? I am calm"

"You look very mad..."

His face showed a smile, but Gabriel knew that was just a good poker face Cale was maintaining.

"It's your imagination"

"Anyways enough about me, What are you doing here Gabriel"

"Ah well"

Gabriel scrambled his words, making Cale lose his patience.

"We don't have all day, get it over with and tell me"

"Well I came here to look for my locker and..."

"?"

Cale tilted his head with a curious expression.

"I wanted to ask you which classroom we are going in"

"Didn't they send you an e-mail?"

"I only remember my locker number...."

His 'calm' expression turned to stone and crumpled like A4 paper being abused by a toddler.

"You've got to be kidding me"

Cale frowned his eyebrows together.

'This is the first day of school, why is he this disorganized?'

Sighing, Cale opened his mouth to tell Gabriel.

"It's classroom 17 where we get the introductions and classroom 23 where we get our books"

Gabriel then voiced a question about something that didn't sit right with him.

"Why can't they do all of that in just one classroom to get it over with?"

"Why the hell are you asking me huh? do I look like I have connections with the principal of this school?!"

He snapped back, raising his voice even further beyond and berated Gabriel in steaming frustration.

"See! I knew You were mad!"

Gabriel said this as if confirming his suspicions.

"No! I am not!"

He raised his voice even higher than before.

"Okay Whatever I'll just go to my locker and put my stuff in, I'll see you in the class"

Gabriel walked away to go find his locker, leaving Cale alone.

"Haaaah"

Cale already felt his drowsiness settling deep within him.

'How am I already this exhausted?'

He locked his eyes onto the Envelope, he pondered on what to do for a few seconds, he licked his dry lips and then grasped The Envelope, curious of what it's contents that remained sealed inside held.

And the moment that his hand held the Envelope, Everything went dark, his vision, his surroundings and even his entire being felt like it had disappeared in the blink of an eye.

This darkness persisted for such a short period of time that it made Cale think he blinked.

"....?"

The moment that short period of Darkness passed he found himself in a completely different place.

Another School, not his School but a completely different one.

"!"

It took a few moments before Cale processed what had just occurred just now

He remembered of the novels he read that had clichè moments just like this.

"Why does this happen to me!?"

Cale asked God this question.

I'm not that unlucky right? Right?!

But he knew God wouldn't answer him.
