Chapter 9 - Jonithan

Pitter...Patter...

Pitter...Patter...

Rain drops continously fell on the white stone floor outside of the guard's dorms. In the center of it, a girl could be seen slowly rising from her knees, her hallow eyes narrowing by each passing moment.

'Huh? What just happened?' Sara was puzzled. She darted her head left and right but couldn't quite remember anything that occurred after she run after her little brother earlier on.

Ouch!

'Even attempting to recall anything makes my brain hurt, what the hell?!' She frowned before an image formed in her head,' I'll ask that Shen later, maybe I fell and I hurt my head.'

'But why didn't he then help me out?'

Aghhh!

As Sara was having a conflict in her emotions and thoughts, she failed to notice that a young man, a head shorter than her casually approaching her from behind.

"Sara? Is that you? What are you doing in the rain at such an hour? Aren't you supposed to be eating lunch with your brother?"

Sara thought's suddenly halted and turned to look at the man, rage bubbling inside of her before embrassment took over but she quickly supressed both emotions and scoffed as she pushed her head towards the sky.

"Rain? It's merely summer's rain, it's in fact beneficial to the skin and my mother advised me to shower under it," Shamlessly lying with a straight face, continued," As for that brother of mine, I'll catch up to him later since father had some important matters to attend to with him."

'The patriarch, huh?' A cold glint flashed past the kid's eyes as several thoughts appeared and disappeared from his mind at an astonishing speed.

Sara didn't seem to notice his reaction and casually asked," What about you, Jonithan kiddo, where are you heading right now?"

Hearing the word kiddo, Jonithan straightened his back, forcing his voice into a deeper tone.

"Kiddo? Hah. I've already passed the rites. I can walk beyond these walls whenever I want now. That's more than some people here can say."

His lips curled into a smirk as he brushed past her, rain clinging to his hair like a crown.

However, right before he moved a few meters away from her, a cold hand grabbed his shoulder, the force of it immobilizing him in his spot.

Jonithan felt a chill run down his spine. Alas, no matter how hard he tried to move his head backwards, he was unable to," Sara..."

His words were cut off as Sara's voice drifted into his ears, "Jonithan… if you ever dare play tricks on Shen, don't think Alex will be able to shield you from me."

"Or have you forgotten my true cultivation? That little act I put on was only to ease my brother's despair."

Her voice dropped to a cold whisper, each word edged with killing intent. "Heads… can… fall."

Woosh!

In the next instant, the pressure Jonithan felt vanished, and he could finally move his body again; however, even after several minutes, he stood in place as sweat dripped down from his forehead onto the bridge of his nose onto the floor.

'Tsk, we will see if you can keep that arrogant personality of yours in a few weeks,' Jonithan quickly brushed off the feeling of doom that was taking over his body, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and kept walking in the rain, his lips curling into a wicked smile.

Right under the rain, a worried expression appeared on Sara's face as she fell into deep thought,' Although I made that threat, he knows clearly well that killing is prohibited for family members without an equally valid reason to accept it.'

'Aghh! If only big brother hadn't gone to the academy a year ago and instead stayed here, none of these problems would have hit our little, cute angel of a brother,' She held her head in annoyance, messing up her hair. Still, the moment she recalled Shen, a smile appeared on her lips as she sped towards the mansion.

Chilling under an apple tree covered by its shadows from the burning rays of the sun, a pile of books was placed next to Shen as he wholeheartedly immersed himself in the vast amount of knowledge in this library.

He had already asked his guard a while ago and knew a thing or two about why this library made like a nobleman's courtyard in ancient times, and finally got his answer.

He was informed that this library isn't the casual library of the family but more like the special library of the patriarch, where only the most important books, except for the vital ones, are placed.

Shen's lips curled. 'So this wasn't the family's library at all… more like the patriarch's private hoard. Figures. Even here, knowledge was treated like treasure after all.'

Shen, understanding this fact, dropped all care about the library's guards' opinion and piled a whole bookshelf of the two beside him under the tree with the help of Eno, acting like he was reading while in reality he was merely creating files and sorting the information accordingly.

Shen stretched his body with a wide smile on his face, his thoughts running wild as he couldn't help but inquire,' Synapse, did you find a method for this body to cultivate?'

After an hour of flipping through dozens of books with some consisting of cultivation techniques of mages, he realised that his situation was more severe than he had first guessed.

The cultivation realms of this world were vastly different from his first world. Here, there was nothing as skills and levels; but instead, cultivation was widespread, and mages were the sole rulers of the continent, and there was no existence of any other paths.

The cultivation realms were as follows: Spirit Awakening, Qi Refinement, Qi Linking into a rank 1 mage, and finally, rank 2. As for the sub-realms of each major realm? Those weren't mentioned, and one had to start practicing the said cultivation technique in order to get further information.

Nevertheless, the cultivation realms, although insignificant compared to the 100 levels of his first life. In the books he read, it was written that a rank 2 mage can move mountains and split seas!

However, the most important thing wasn't any of this, but was instead the fact that he had no way of cultivating. Even with the help of Synapse, all he knew was that his body was very weak to support any form of mage cultivation.
