Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 The Cursed Girl

London Hospital.

"I don't know how much you know about magic, but something strange has been happening recently."

"You speak, I'll listen." Batman made a gesture of listening intently.

Constantine sighed, exhaling the smoke from his lungs.

"Something has opened a channel between my conscious and unconscious, materializing the demon within me."

"Just this morning, I stepped on and killed many demonic versions of myself."

"Eventually, there were too many to kill, so I had to swallow them back into my stomach."

Batman understood every word he said, but combined, they were not so easy to comprehend.

This was especially true given that Bruce Wayne actually knew nothing about magic.

He could only look at Constantine and then said with a very suspicious tone:

"You didn't smoke weed this morning, did you?"

Constantine said helplessly:

"I knew you didn't understand magic. Why didn't the Justice League you mentioned send someone who understands magic?"

"At least they could help with this matter."

Batman was expressionless:

"Although it's hard to believe, I agree with you on this point."

He observed the hospital, "Who are we looking for here?"

Constantine led the way, saying as he walked, "Cuixi, a friend's daughter."

"You actually have friends?"

"Yes, a karmic bond formed since childhood, impossible to shake off."

Because Batman's identity was special, they specifically chose to come late at night.

At this time, no one saw them except for a few on-duty staff.

When they arrived in front of a ward, they saw an anxious couple waiting.

"Where have you been, John?"

"Getting some outside help."

Constantine's childhood friend, Chas, looked at Batman suspiciously.

"You mean this weirdo, dressed in a black costume?"

Batman's expression was unruffled, and his voice was also, "I. Am. Batman!"

Chas's gaze became even stranger, "He even has a title?"

His wife, Renee, said anxiously beside him:

"We're wasting time. Why don't we trust the Doctor?"

She stared at Constantine with hatred, her words not very pleasant:

"And ask a scumbag and a freak in strange clothes for help? I don't understand!"

Chas could only kindly persuade, "We've invited too many Doctors, and none could cure Cuixi. Only John can help."

He looked at Constantine with hope in his eyes, "Please, brother."

Facing his childhood friend's request, Constantine could only nod helplessly.

Batman had been observing and did not say much.

He followed Constantine into the ward and finally saw an eight-year-old girl lying on the hospital bed.

"What's about to happen might challenge your worldview, but please, try not to react too strongly, okay?"

Batman slowly nodded, his gaze fixed on him.

Constantine stood by the hospital bed and began chanting a spell in a language Batman had never heard before.

Suddenly, a golden ball of energy appeared in Constantine's hands.

He hurled this energy ball, forming a portal-like opening on the other side.

Batman narrowed his eyes and took a step back.

He had heard some tidbits from Dane that when a magician opens a magic portal, it's usually not a person who comes through.

Contrary to Batman's imagination, a tall, beautiful woman in a purple Nurse's uniform emerged from the portal.

She had medium-length hair, skin as pale as a corpse, but exquisite features, making her quite attractive.

She seemed very familiar with Constantine, calling him by his name as soon as she arrived.

"You really pick the worst times, John."

"I was just having a threesome with a dryad and an air fairy; I must say, their techniques are both better than yours."

Constantine coughed, his gaze drifting to the side.

The Nurse quickly noticed Batman standing nearby.

"How interesting, you have friends like this around?"

"Let's get back to the point; I called you here for something important."

He looked at Cuixi on the hospital bed, and the Nurse looked too, then couldn't help but roll her eyes.

Though looking very impatient, she still walked over.

"Alright, I did swear to protect life, do no harm, and all that."

Her hand glowed with magic, and she reached directly into Cuixi's body.

Batman looked at Constantine, who explained:

"This woman is Nightmare Nurse; her true form is a demon."

"She's currently sharing a body with a human. Don't worry, she's one of us."

How the hell am I supposed to relax about that?

"What do you think?" Constantine couldn't help but ask after she had been probing for a while.

"I think you should shut up and let me do my job."

"She's possessed, isn't she?"

This was Constantine's guess, but he wasn't very sure.

Nightmare Nurse was annoyed: "Can't you even understand 'shut up'?"

After a moment, she withdrew her hand. Cuixi's body was just as it was before, without any damage.

Batman also relaxed a bit, and then he heard Nightmare Nurse say:

"She's not possessed, because there's no physical body inside to be possessed."

Constantine hadn't expected this outcome and subconsciously blurted out, "What?"

At this moment, Batman suddenly spoke: "There's no... soul inside her, right?"

Nightmare Nurse looked at him in surprise, and after confirming that he was indeed just an ordinary person, she couldn't help but exclaim.

"John, you're not as smart as a mortal."

Constantine's expression was a bit unpleasant, and he retorted:

"But before, I clearly sensed something attached to her."

Nightmare Nurse then said bluntly: "Then let's see who it is..."

She reached out and a short magic wand appeared out of thin air in her palm.

She waved it, and magic, like threads, delved into Cuixi's body.

A crimson mass was pulled out from within, and it climbed along Nightmare Nurse's magic onto her, as if completing some kind of possession ritual.

When Nightmare Nurse opened her eyes again, her demeanor had completely changed.

"Save me!"

"Cuixi?" Constantine was overjoyed and quickly asked, "Where are you now?"

Nightmare Nurse, possessed by Cuixi, looked frail: "In a... a cage. I can't see clearly; it's so cold here."

Constantine then asked, "Are you alone?"

Cuixi replied, "Yes, except when it comes."

At this point, Nightmare Nurse hugged her arms, looking very scared.

"Who? What's its name?" Constantine realized this guy was very likely the culprit.

Cuixi seemed to feel pain; she cried out, and Nightmare Nurse's expression changed again, becoming evil.

"I have many names; which one do you want to know?"

At this point, the one possessing Nightmare Nurse had clearly changed to another person—no, another demon.

"Who are you?"

"John Constantine, if you want answers from a demon, you'll have to come here yourself, hahaha."

"Then tell me where I can find you."

The demon suddenly left Nightmare Nurse's body, and Hellfire burned a line of English words onto the hospital window:

"Los Angeles, 1247 Ernstrom Street"

Nightmare Nurse fell to the ground. After being possessed by that demon, she was forced to reveal her true demonic form.

It had clear female characteristics, but compared to a human body, the demonic form was ferocious and terrifying, completely unwatchable for ordinary people.

But surprisingly, besides the unfazed Constantine, even Batman remained expressionless.

He even had the leisure to show concern for this demon.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm fine; I just need a little time to recover."

Nightmare Nurse said as she transformed, returning to her human Nurse appearance.

She stood up, taking Batman's outstretched hand, and looked at him with a different kind of meaning in her eyes.

"You're very different, handsome. What's your name?"

"Batman." He withdrew his arm after helping Nightmare Nurse up.

"Batman, hmm, a very special name, just like you..."

Constantine couldn't stand it anymore: "OK, enough, Yasah, do you really have to flirt with a man you just met at a time like this?"

"Come on, John, I'm a demon," Nightmare Nurse chuckled.

"Also, I think you guys don't have time to waste here."

"I guess we're going to Los Angeles next."

"Yeah, time to buy plane tickets back again."

Constantine was a pauper, though he always managed to cling to rich women.

But even he, who wasn't picky, occasionally had moments when he didn't want to work.

"We're in a hurry, aren't we?" Batman pressed his arm display a few times.

Suddenly, a strong wind picked up outside the window, making the curtains flap loudly.

Constantine and Nightmare Nurse looked over.

They found that a black Bat-aircraft had appeared outside at some point.

"You have a plane?"

"How else did I get here?"

He couldn't possibly take a commercial flight wearing his Bat-suit, could he?

Batman opened the window and stepped onto the aircraft's wing to enter the cockpit.

"Are you going to watch from there, or come back with me?"

Constantine, realizing what was happening, quickly took a few steps and likewise boarded the aircraft.

Nightmare Nurse stayed behind to guard Cuixi's physical body and did not board.

The Bat-aircraft ascended, finally flying away from London at supersonic speed.
