Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Evil and Blasphemy

Inside, it looked like a party, but it was eerie and terrifying, devoid of any of the joy a human party should have.

The waiters were faceless demons with exposed brains, completely naked, yet wearing ridiculous bow ties around their necks.

On the platters they carried were human heads with terrified expressions.

The top of the skulls had been opened, revealing brains and blood inside, with a few bloody eyeballs for garnish.

Some impatient demons were gnawing on the tortured, unrecognizable human corpses in the corners.

Some demons were even doing unspeakable things to the corpses... On the pillars on both sides of the hall, some humans were nailed in the pose of Jesus on the cross, barely alive, without even the strength to scream.

Some demons in suits and ties held whips, lashing at well-dressed humans, forcing them to dance to the stage music.

On the stage, various pieces of music were performed by strangely shaped demons.

Their instruments were pieced together from human bodies, and those humans were still painfully alive.

Seeing such a scene, Batman even felt that Dante's depictions of Hell were conservative.

He was shocked by everything before him; this was Batman's first time witnessing the darkness of Hell.

At the same time, he made a decision in his heart: he absolutely could not allow these demons to run wild in the city!

Just then, the ballroom door opened, and a huge, ugly demon entered, leading Constantine.

Batman spotted them and put a small respirator over his mouth.

Beru'er was about to introduce his Hell party to Constantine when a grenade suddenly exploded on the floor.

A cloud of smoke quickly filled the hall.

"Who is so bold!"

Beru'er instinctively covered his face, but he quickly realized.

He was a demon; why should he be afraid of such a small toy?

So he waved his large hand, and the smoke was blown away by a strong wind, but Constantine was already gone.

Beru'er's large yellow eyes were filled with gloom, but the manor was his territory, and he had absolute control over it.

So he quickly discovered that Constantine was with a person clad in all black.

"Little things, where do you think you can run?"

Batman led Constantine towards the exit.

"Did you figure out the crux of the problem?"

"Of course. By the way, when did you leave?"

"That's not important. We have to get out of this hellhole; fighting here is too disadvantageous for us."

"Huh? You actually thought about fighting them! I think it'll be hard enough for us to escape."

Just as the two were about to reach the door, Beru'er suddenly appeared in their path.

"Why are you in such a hurry to leave, hmm?"

Beru'er suddenly twitched his nose, turned his gaze to Batman, and took another deep sniff.

"Ah~ that captivating scent, your soul is very special, very special~"

Like the pig-headed man, Beru'er also showed an unusual covetousness for Batman's soul.

Beru'er extended his long tongue and looked at Batman with a greedy expression.

Batman did not foolishly rush into a fight, knowing it would be futile.

"Do you have any other tricks?"

Constantine looked at Beru'er with a serious expression, thinking about what magic he could use against him.

"Yes," Batman looked up.

"What..." Constantine was about to ask when he saw the batplane appear outside the glass window.

From the underside of the batplane, a weapon mount with three muzzles extended.

Holy shit!

Constantine quickly hit the deck. The next moment, a sound of bullets, louder and more dense than a Gatling gun, came from above his scalp.

Beru'er's body was instantly torn to shreds by the bullets fired from the Vulcan cannon. Inside were organs and tissues just like a human's.

Constantine watched this scene in shock, and then he was effortlessly lifted up by Batman with one hand.

Then, Batman aimed his other hand at the batplane, and a small arrow with a thin rope shot out from his wrist.

The grappling hook caught onto the batplane's wing, and the batplane, in automatic flight mode, quickly ascended.

Carrying Batman and Constantine away from the manor.

In the hall, Beru'er, who had been a puddle of flesh and blood, suddenly reassembled as if time were flowing backward.

A few seconds later, he returned to his previous ugly appearance.

But the shattered mansion and the demons that had been caught in the blast and died were truly dead.

Although he had just been killed once, Beru'er was not angry. Instead, he looked with interest in the direction the batplane flew off.

"Interesting."

...On the batplane, Constantine roared at Batman.

"Are you crazy?"

"Cuixi's soul is inside that guy. If he dies, Cuixi will die too!"

Batman was calmly almost cruel:

"We must not let the demons in that manor leave that place, no matter the cost!"

Constantine suddenly turned his head to look at him:

"You knew, didn't you? You knew Cuixi was inside his body!"

Batman did not answer, but this already indicated the answer.

He had placed a wiretap on Constantine before leaving him and deciding to act alone.

So all of his conversation with Beru'er had been heard by Batman.

Although it was regrettable, and although Batman was also tormented internally.

But he had to make a choice; between an individual and the entire city, he could only choose the city.

"You. Son. Of. Bitch!"

Constantine was enraged and immediately punched Batman.

Batman, who was proficient in almost all martial arts techniques in the World, was completely unaware, letting the punch land on his face.

The batplane had already been set to autopilot, so no one needed to control it.

Seeing that he wasn't fighting back at all, Constantine grew even angrier, continuously unleashing his fists on Batman.

It was as if he was venting his rage, trying to forget his powerlessness.

But this battle suit was an upgraded nano-suit, and Constantine inflicted almost no harm on his opponent, only injuring himself.

"Had enough?" Batman got up from the ground, looking at Constantine, whose hands were almost broken.

"Never enough!"

At this moment, the communicator in the batplane suddenly rang, interrupting their argument.

Batman answered, and it was Dane's voice on the other end.

"Where are you now?"

"On the batplane, just left the demon's manor."

Dane noticed the unusual tone in his voice and asked curiously, "What happened?"

"I just killed Beru'er, the demon who was behind all of this."

"Are you sure?"

"What do you mean?" Batman frowned; he had personally seen the demon torn to shreds.

Dane switched the phone to his other hand and continued:

"I advise you not to jump to conclusions before you figure out the truth."

"Demons with such cunning are no easier to kill than the psychopaths in Gotham."

Batman immediately turned to look at Constantine, who understood and wanted to pull out his phone to call London and ask.

But his fingers were almost broken, and moving them caused excruciating pain, so he finally had to ask Batman to take out the phone from his pocket.

After dialing Chas's number, Constantine requested to speak with Nightmare Nurse.

"Yasa, how is Cuixi's condition?"

"Not good. If you don't find her soul quickly, her body will necrotize."

"The most I can do now is slow down the process."

This meant Cuixi wasn't dead! She was still alive!

Constantine was overjoyed.

But Batman frowned, his expression solemn.

If even such an attack couldn't kill it, what could be done?

He immediately contacted Dane.

"You were right, it's not over. That demon is still alive. Is it unkillable?"

"No tangible creature can truly be immortal. Even I can die, let alone a mere demon?"

"It must have some special Dark magic that allowed it to escape certain Death."

"Finding its weakness and then killing it, isn't that your strong suit, Batman?"

"I don't know much about magic, and I don't kill people."

"Demons aren't people. Why don't you ask Mr. Constantine? He might become our teammate in the future."

Batman looked at Constantine, who was blowing on his fingers and grimacing, and said,

"I highly doubt that."
