Chapter 30 - Peter's Day

Under the microscope, the structures of the two types of webbing were essentially similar, both resembling the spider silk of the Black Widow Spider in nature.

Peter had learned from literature that scientists at the University of California, Riverside had meticulously studied the genetic code of Black Widow Spider silk, discovering that it contained two key proteins, Masp1 and Masp2.

Both were serine proteases, components of the lectin pathway for complement activation.

The webbing used by Spider-Man and the Amazing Spider-Man, with its Masp-like components, was even more obscure and profound than that found in nature.

It was almost magical!

This made Peter a little doubtful. Could it be that the source of their abilities wasn't just science, but also involved the mystical?

Unfortunately, although the equipment in the school's lab was fairly well-stocked, he couldn't conduct further research.

Peter could only make a note of this idea for now, and wait until he had the opportunity to conduct in-depth research later.

随后,他在实验室里找到了一台Single Fiber Tensile Tester.

And the deformation process is also more controllable, making observation much more detailed.

If it were his own manual type, Peter would have to constantly pay attention to controlling the force of his muscles. He'd have to carefully control the strength in his hands while also making observations and records. Just thinking about it, he knew how tiring it would be, right?

So, if possible, Peter preferred to do this at school.

Anyway, no one else knew what he was doing.

Teachers generally wouldn't care what experiments students were doing because each student chose their own projects.

Classmates were also busy with their own things and rarely bothered him, except for Ned.

"Peter, what are you researching?"

"Uh, Stark internship project, composite fiber materials, you know." Peter was very satisfied with this excuse. It seemed like he could blame anything on it. With Iron Man taking the blame, if there was a problem, you could ask Iron Man.

"Oh~" Ned suddenly understood, no wonder he hadn't understood what Peter was doing after watching for so long.

But that made sense. After all, he was good at electronics, computer programming, and the like, so it was normal for him not to understand biomaterials.

So Ned turned around and went to do his own thing.

Peter, meanwhile, continued his experiments using the Single Fiber Tensile Tester.

Under the effect of the tensile tester, the mechanics of the webbing were well displayed.

The differences between the two types of webbing were also revealed.

Compared to his own webbing, the Amazing Spider-Man's webbing was tougher, mainly in terms of breaking strength.

But correspondingly, the Amazing Spider-Man's webbing didn't perform as well in terms of elasticity; his had a higher breaking elongation.

To sum it up: The Amazing Spider-Man's webbing was stronger and harder; it could withstand more force, but because it lost some elasticity, its cushioning performance was relatively lower. If used to stick to objects, or even the human body, the force the other party would have to endure would be greater than with Peter's webbing.

Because the sum of the forces remains constant!

Part of the force is absorbed by the elasticity of the webbing, so the force acting on the subject is naturally reduced.

However, this detail probably doesn't matter much.

Peter then used other equipment in the lab to conduct more observations. He discovered that the density of his and Amazing Spider-Man's webbing was similar to that of silkworm silk, and less than that of Kevlar and most other high-performance fibers, and much less than the density of steel.

This discovery meant that he might actually be able to use webbing to make clothing!

He just needed to make some adjustments to the rigidity of the webbing, so that it was no longer biased towards the current bio-fiber. By adding some other elements and sacrificing a portion of its performance, he might be able to obtain a composite material that was superior to existing high-molecular fiber materials!

After studying the materials, Peter secretly took apart the pneumatic Single Fiber Tensile Tester while the teacher wasn't looking, and examined its structure, committing it to memory.

He would definitely encounter even more different kinds of webbing when traveling to other Spider-Man universes.

He couldn't possibly wait until lab class every time to conduct research, could he?

So, he decided that when he got back, he'd figure out a way to completely convert the manual one at home into a pneumatic one.

Even if it couldn't match this one, it should at least have 90% of its performance, no, 70%!

The lab class ended like this, with Peter busy the whole time.

No joke, he was really busy for the entire class.

He just wasn't busy with the class content.

But, is it really "goofing off" when you're doing experiments?

It's for a better future!

It's for the prosperity and development of science and technology for all of humanity!

Ahem.

The rest of the afternoon wasn't very interesting.

Aside from Flash, that annoying guy, coming to him every now and then to show off, Peter's afternoon was quite peaceful.

As for Flash, he was just an idiot who liked to seek attention.

Peter didn't bother to argue with him.

The interesting thing was, this guy actually liked how Peter looked when he was in his suit, as Spider-Man.

Flash declared himself Spider-Man's number one fan. His clothes were printed with Spider-Man's image, he hid Spider-Man's photos in his backpack, and he often caused trouble for Peter, the actual Spider-Man.

He was a real hardcore fan – even though he didn't know Peter's true identity.

What could Peter do about it?

He could only forgive him!

He really hadn't expected that in such a short time, he'd gained a hardcore fan.

And what he hadn't expected even more was that this hardcore fan was also his classmate!

Sometimes Peter wanted to put on his Spider-Man suit, appear in front of Flash, and then suddenly take off his mask, letting him know his identity, and scaring him silly.

Uh, yeah, of course, just thinking out loud.
