Chapter 32 - Waiting for the Lizard

When Peter opened his eyes again, he found himself, or rather, the Amazing Spider-Man, in a place devoid of light.

Beneath him was a web made of strands of webbing, each strand leading into the depths of different tunnels.

"Huh, where am I?"

Peter began to process the information.

Images of the Amazing Spider-Man's important activities from that day appeared.

In the morning, he and his girlfriend Gwen were at the playground... this part was cut out.

In the afternoon, after school, the Amazing Spider-Man went to the Osborn Group and saw two people arguing there.

Coincidentally, he knew both of them.

One was Gwen's mentor, a genetic biologist, and also a former colleague of his father, Richard Parker: Dr. Curt Connors.

Previously, Amazing Spider-Man had sought out Dr. Connors to investigate his father's sudden departure and disappearance, giving him a series of decay rate formulas his father had left in a notebook.

The other man was the disgusting fellow Peter had saved last night, who claimed to be the head of Osborn Group's biological research department, and had given Peter a look of covetousness.

His name was Niles, right?

When Amazing Spider-Man arrived, the two were arguing fiercely, for some unknown reason.

Because the glass was too thick, and the soundproofing too good, Amazing Spider-Man could only vaguely hear the keywords "Lizard," "super," and "spider."

After that, the two arguing inside parted on bad terms.

The guy named Niles angrily pushed open the door, glanced at Amazing Spider-Man, but didn't recognize him without his Spider-suit.

Afterward, Amazing Spider-Man and Dr. Connors had a conversation.

During the conversation, he realized something wasn't right with the doctor.

Dr. Connors left after saying some puzzling things and quickly departed.

Amazing Spider-Man then saw in the laboratory the once docile mouse, now transformed into a fierce, bloodthirsty beast. It was clutching and gnawing on the corpse of its companion.

Amazing Spider-Man remembered that this mouse was called Fred, and it had a broken leg.

Not long ago, Dr. Connors had used the zero-decay formula he provided to perfect the serum and injected it into Fred. The results were very encouraging.

Fred's broken leg had grown back!

But now, it…

If he remembered correctly, Dr. Connors' serum used the Lizard's genes as its base.

But it was obvious that his serum had a serious flaw that increased the aggression of the recipient.

It released a wildness, like that of a reptile!

Therefore, the mouse Fred, who had been injected with the Lizard serum, had changed from its usual docile nature to this current state of brutality!

Amazing Spider-Man suddenly understood everything.

So, Dr. Connors was the Lizard that appeared on the Williamsburg Bridge last night!

He rushed to the police station to tell Captain Stacy, Gwen's father, what he knew.

But Captain Stacy didn't believe him, and even thought he was joking.

With no other options, he decided to try and capture the transformed Dr. Connors himself – or perhaps, he should call him Doctor Lizard.

Having no leads, he accidentally saw something about lizards liking to go into the sewers. That gave him the idea to try his luck there and see if he could find Doctor Lizard.

When Peter connected the "web line," it was precisely when the Amazing Spider-Man was in the sewers, trying his luck and setting up the web line to wait for the "lizard."

It seemed his idea to continue looking for Doctor Lizard wasn't just his own.

The Amazing Spider-Man had the same idea.

Did they have the same idea?

"Webbing connected to webbing, Peter going into Peter. Interesting, just like me," Peter chuckled.

He flipped over and continued to lie on the large web he had woven.

He had to admit, it was a rather clumsy method.

But there was no other choice.

If he chose to search one by one, given the complexity of the sewers beneath Queens, Peter might not find Doctor Lizard even by next year.

And the words Dr. Connors had said before leaving made Peter shudder whenever he thought about them.

"Don't worry, Mr. Parker, I'll be back soon. Something good is about to happen, something very, very good!"

His intuition told him that Doctor Lizard was brewing a big conspiracy!

He had to find him as soon as possible!

As soon as possible, yeah, that wasn't going to be easy.

How to catch the Lizard quickly?

Just wait here, right?

Peter lay on the Webbing, a little bored, wondering if he'd come too early.

Would it have been better to let Amazing Spider-Man find Doctor Lizard's whereabouts first, and then come here?

He took out his phone, bored, and prepared to play a game of Bubble Shooter to kill time.

After turning on the screen, he found that there was a sentence on the wallpaper.

"Hey, bro."

"Oh, wow?" Peter's eyes lit up. It seemed that the message he'd left had been received by Amazing Spider-Man.

But, he only found this one sentence.

As for why.

Actually, he had a guess. Perhaps the actions he took while possessing other Spider-Men, they would also have related memories after he left.

But they shouldn't be able to read his memories.

Thinking this, Peter left a greeting on his phone's wallpaper: "Hey, bro, I'm Peter."

After doing something silly, Peter chuckled to himself for a while.

He felt like he really had another brother from a different world, a brother from another mother.

This feeling was very subtle.

They should be considered parallel-universe counterparts, with different experiences and environments shaping them differently, but theoretically, they should be the same person.

This relationship was complex.

It depended on how you looked at it.

But the only thing that was certain was that they were probably closer than brothers by blood.

Then, Peter checked his Web-Shooter again.

After making some minor adjustments, the Web-Shooter was completely renewed.

However, because of past experience, Peter still needed to check it.

In case it suddenly failed during a fight, that wouldn't be good.

Duang~ A strand of Webbing suddenly flicked.

Peter's expression tightened, and he immediately put away the phone he was playing Bubble Shooter on.

Something had touched his Webbing!

The sewers were teeming with life, but his Webbing was aimed high, out of reach of the smaller creatures.

In this sewer, there was only one being capable of triggering the Webbing.

Doctor Lizard!

As Peter focused, his Spider-Sense switched from passive to active mode, actively scanning outwards.

He immediately made a discovery.

A source of danger, a signal that sent a shiver down his spine, was slowly approaching him through a passage!
