Chapter 28 - How to hunt a Goblin’s Den?

Since the Goblins were spotted, there was a high chance that a den of goblins would be around the area as well. And asking Blaze about the direction from where the goblins came from, we walked about 100 meters to the east before a small elevated area appeared in our view.

Walking around it for a few dozen meters, we also sighted a cave guarded by two level 2 Goblins, each with a makeshift spear in their hands.

Finding monster dens like these was one of the common strategies in the game, it was all the more fruitful when [Dungeons] became available within the game. I think it was version 1.4 when the dungeons were introduced in the game, partly because it was fun and mostly because the resources from common monsters were really scarce.

The weaker goblins should be in range between level 1 and 5, while the stronger ones would be around level 6 and 7. If we are lucky, we should be able to meet a Goblin Leader of level 8. I analysed the goblin's strength as I looked at the goblin's den, and the guards outside.

"I will explain the basics now. For starters, that den you see there, guarded by the two goblins, is a Goblin's Den. There are many similar dens throughout Arcadia."

"There are three major points that we need to consider. First the level of the monsters inside it. A general rule is to multiply the level number of the monster outside by 3 for any elite monsters and 4 for boss monsters. In rare instances, there can also be a boss monster whose level is 5 times the one that the guarding monster has."

"The next most important thing is about the armour and weapons they have. The better the guards are equipped, the better the elite monsters and the boss will be. Both in terms of skills and abilities."

"And lastly the number. You can't typically gauge it by looking at the guards, but if you have happened to come across a group of goblins outside, just count the total number. Multiply by 2.5 for the mobs, half it for the elite monsters. The total number would be more or less similar to that."

"And since you guys have faced 8 goblins outside, let's expect 20 mobs inside of level 2-4, 4 to 5 Elite Goblins of level 5-6, and a Boss Goblin of Level 7-9," I finished my explanation before turning to the trio who were staring at me, a bit amazed at my explanation.

Things like this are pretty common though… Well, it's just the first day of release so many probably don't know about it. I smiled as I then continued speaking,

"Since I and Blaze won't benefit from killing the mobs, I will teach Raven and Link a few tips and tricks on how to defeat monsters in Arcadia. Will that be all right, you both?"

"Ah! I would be really delighted!" Kite answered, stammering a bit.

"Thank you," Raven nodded.

Hopefully, this should be a fine start for the channel. A guide channel of the highest level player, along with a few crazy adventures should garner enough attention. This could also help me earn a lot of money in the short term. I smiled as I moved towards the goblin's den, and using a rock, hit one of the goblin guards.

The Goblin guard slowly moved towards the direction from which he was hit, and then as soon as he saw me within the forest, his pace increased, and directing his weapon in my direction he charged as fast as he could.

Looking at Link who was ready, I signalled him to move forward and take the aggro of the incoming goblin. And though Link was shaking a bit, he still braced himself and took a step closer to the goblin who should be reaching him in less than half a minute.

"Most small humanoid monsters will tend to have low intelligence, hence they will charge towards the prey at a rapid speed. They will attack on instinct, and will often be far more agile than a bigger one," I spoke as I guided Link and then added," When the goblin charged towards you, aim for the area where you can be 100% sure to hit. In this case, it's the chest."

Just like I said, the Goblin soon charged towards Link who appeared in his sight, and right before he could attack, Link raised the spear and thrust at the incoming goblin, piercing its chest.

A direct hit to the heart, huh? Good enough. I complimented Link as I saw him a bit scared of the goblin in front of him.

Something like this should already be known to many, now let's add the small facts that would make this lesson special as well. I smiled as I then continued speaking,

"Perhaps when you level up enough, you can get more aggressive skills and can kill more monsters. Though, as far as I have searched, priests can level up faster while healing NPCs in a cathedral, so keep that in mind too, okay?" I spoke, making him turn to me, and then nodded with a surprised expression.

"The other ways to get stronger without levelling up are skills, titles and blessings. While the first two are often situation based, blessings can be taken from the cathedral of your chosen Gods. Depending upon your faith level, you can often get quite good boosts that would help you later on. Also, when talking to NPCs, if you happen to finish a quest, try to act like it was a hard thing to do, and if there was a way to reduce the burden next time. You may be surprised with what you find," I spoke with a slight chuckle.

Blaze was getting even more amazed, while Kite was observing me with an extremely curious expression. As for Raven… she seemed to be focused more on the hunt than my talk.

Interesting. I saw her taking out a small dagger from her inventory. It was different from the broken dagger that she used before. And then with a slight anticipation in her voice mixed with a certain confidence, she asked,

"Is aiming at the chest the best option?"
