Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: My Greed

"Huh? What happened just now?" I asked in a confused state. It was as if I was in a trance. I couldn't understand what had just happened.

I didn't notice it on time. My anger got the better of me due to the installed hate from my vessel. I found myself in my consciousness. I regained control before it got out of hand.

"What were you about to do?" Phil said, holding my hands very tightly as if he was reading my mind.

"I… I don't know," I stuttered.

The passengers were already scared of what would have happened if I had done what I intended to do. They were all confused and scared at the same time. Nobody spoke until we arrived at our destination.

"We're here, Will! Welcome to S.P.K High School Festival."

"Wow," I said in a bored tone.

The school was, without a doubt, a rich school. The journey from the gate took 15 minutes to the event venue (the lecture buildings).

"Let's go. We have no time to lose," he said as he led the way into a big crowd.

The event had started. The school ground was filled with students, parents, and other invitees. The festival was bustling and lively. Different activities were performed in each corner by different grades.

I couldn't say I was surprised. I wasn't intrigued. I still lacked some emotions.

"See her?" Phil pointed at a girl standing in the distance. "That's the student council vice chancellor."

"Isn't she pretty?" Phil asked.

"Pretty?" I was confused.

"Hey, Will!" Love called out from afar and hurriedly caught up to us.

"Fancy meeting you here. I never knew you came to school festivals like this."

"No, I don't… Phil invited me." I pointed at Phil, who already had a cold expression the moment Love started talking to me.

Both Love's and Phil's expressions became cold towards each other. They glared maliciously at each other.

"Hi!" Phil said cheerfully. His expression quickly changed into his usual friendly one.

"Hi!" Love said in a cold tone without making eye contact with Phil. There was a bit of silence.

"What are you doing here?" I tried to break the silence by asking a question.

"Oh, my friend invited me as well, but I've lost sight of her."

"Can I have a moment with your friend?" Love said as she grabbed Phil's arm.

"No problem. I don't mind," I replied without hesitation.

Love grabbed Phil and led him to a less populated area around the classroom buildings.

At the same time, I tried to buy some ice cream when a female student of S.P.K High School approached me and whispered into my ear,

"If you want to know more about your problems, follow me."

She then blended into the crowd.

I followed her without fear or suspicion, obviously because I lacked both.

"Now look here, Psyche! I don't know which category you belong to, but stay away from Will. I can tell you've already made your move on him." Although today he sounded normal like his usual self.

"Oh, you can tell after all?"

"I guess I should have taken extra measures during the battle that time," Phil stated.

"Of course, I can tell. His behaviour is contradictory to his former personality. You are tampering with it," Love replied with a serious expression.

"Well, that's good news. (laughing) I'm never gonna let you own him again. You've had your fun way too long. It's my turn now," Phil chuckled evilly.

"Fun, you said? Do you think possession is fun? You have the slightest idea about what I have done for him?"

"I don't care what shit you did for him. He's mine now, and there's nothing you can do about it. You're gonna stay out of our way," Phil replied with a confident expression.

"No way am I letting you get a hold of him completely. He doesn't need you guys. You are evil. Evil cannot exist within him…"

"Oh, we'll see about that. It's so exhilarating to know how little you know about him. You're just a neutral — what do you know about the past? Go and do your homework before you confront me again, little one. You will lose today." Phil laughed evilly as he walked towards the classroom buildings, leaving Love behind.

---

I followed her to an empty classroom. She sat on one of the classroom desks, facing me with an expression that screamed, "I want you."

"So, you want to answer my questions?"

"Yes… I know you are troubled. You are being alert about these new developments you have been experiencing, haven't you?" she said.

"And what do you gain from this? First of all, what's your name?" I asked.

"Isn't it more respectable to give your name first before asking strangers theirs?" she said as she stood up from the desk.

"Fine. My name is—"

"I'm Reya!" she interrupted me as I tried to state my name. "I know who you are… Will."

"Have you been seeing strange figures around you lately?" she continued.

"Yeah, a lot."

"Wow! Even your way of speech has changed. You have probably seen some that may look human, others with deformed figures…" she added.

"Yeah, I have seen them, but I can't remember how long it started."

"No need to worry; you will know very soon. All these inhuman and semi-human creatures you see on a daily basis are called PSYCHES."

"Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Reya. I am a Greater Psyche and one of the seven major sins of man, known as GREED."

"I see… so you're like her and Phil too. Half-human, half-Psyche?" I was certain after she introduced herself.

"Oh? So you know about them too?" She was bewildered. "Wow, my remnants must have a strong influence on your will."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Oh, pardon me." She adjusted her glasses and crossed her legs.

"I mean your curiosity is my creation, my child. The way you hunger for knowledge, it's as if you're a newborn babe."

"You must think you have no emotions?" she asked, grinning knowingly.

"Initially, I didn't think I had any. I can't remember anything for the past few weeks."

She giggled softly while covering her mouth with her hand.

"A human without emotion is as good as dead weight. You've always had emotion, but they weren't dominant — just recessive. Do you think an emotionless being will have the will to go to school, think, read, talk, sleep, or even eat? An emotionless being is a doll. Even animals possess emotions and feelings, as well as plants.

Our instinct to survive is the first emotion of every living thing, and that emotion is me — GREED.

Therefore, you have always had emotion."

And I thought I was emotionless...
