Chapter 4 - Fractured not broken

Nora's entire life had been lived for her, when she was younger, her friends were chosen for her, but she was too strong willed and ended up with no real friends

Growing up, her games and clubs were also pick for her, because she was too strong willed she ended up being an indoor girl

After graduation, her job as the president in her father's company was already chosen for her.

It was fair to say she never really owned her life,

But choosing her marriage partner was a little bit too much, she had lived in silence all this years with the consolation that she was going to get married to someone she loved and finally live a life but this was also about to be taken from her.

Nora sat rigidly in the dining hall, her grip on her fork tighter , her father's' stern faces looming over her like a dark cloud, his voice icy her father's eyes unyielding.

"Nora, this is not time for a teenage rebellion, and I'm not asking for your opinion."It's a perfect match, and you'll do what's best for this family." he said again.

Nora's stomach churned as she thought of Knox's condescending smile and manipulative nature. She'd always felt suffocated by her parents' expectations, but something about this felt different. Maybe it was the spark of independence she'd discovered within herself, or the realization that she deserved more.

For once, Nora found her voice. "I won't do it," she said, her words trembling but firm. "I won't marry someone I despise just to suit your ambitions."

Her parents exchanged a shocked glance, her father's face reddening with anger. "You'll do as you're told, Nora," her father growled. "This is about family duty and loyalty."

Nora's heart pounded, but she stood her ground, a newfound determination igniting within her. She refused to be silenced.

" And I said I won't do it, what did you say?'the best I can get?' .....the best I can get is surely not Knox Wilder.

For once she had refused to be forced into a life of misery. The question was, how far would she go to fight for her freedom, how far would she be able to fight her father and employer.

*********. .************. .*************. .******.

Ivy,had just wrapped up a productive day working from home. She had spent the morning designing a scalable cloud infrastructure for a new client and troubleshooting some technical issues that had arisen during the implementation phase. After a satisfying lunch break, she had dove into a meeting with her team to discuss the progress of their ongoing projects and brainstorm solutions to some complex technical challenges.

As the afternoon drew to a close, Ivy decided to take a break and unwind. She poured herself a cup of tea and settled into her favorite spot on the couch, ready to relax and recharge. Just as she was about to immerse herself in a movie, she heard a knock at the door. It was her best friend, Nora.

However, Nora didn't look like her usual self. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she was visibly shaken. "Hey, girl, what's wrong?" Ivy asked, concern etched on her face. Nora burst into tears, and Ivy quickly ushered her into the living room, offering a comforting hug and a listening ear.

"What's going on, Nora? What happened during the breakfast ," Ivy said, trying to calm her friend down. Nora took a deep breath and began to explain the situation, her words tumbling out in a rush.

"What??!!!!!"

Ivy's annoyance seemed to be greater than Nora's

Ivy was aware of Nora's life and how miserable her parents made her but this was too much.

As Nora ranted, Ivy was there making her understand that she was right and her parents were awfully wrong. Her cloud architect's workday might be over, but her role as a best friend was always on.

"Nova Terra could go bankrupt for all I care if it means you can't be happy for the rest of your life"

" I'm still shaken, My dad couldn't be anymore selfish and heartless if he was willing to sacrifice my happiness with a partnership from Titan group"

" Girl, you are standing on your word, you cannot marry Knox Wilder for anything"
