Chapter 1 - Let's play¹

One day, The younger asked

"Why doesn't anyone come near us?"

After a moment's thought, the older replied, although it wasn't the best answer, but it was the best that the imagination of a spoiled child in the guise of an arrogant young master could come up with.

"Because we are perfect, like Grandfather."

"But even Grandfather doesn't come near us."

The naive, clever younger almost refuted his argument, so the older replied, Fully convinced

"Because we are more important than that old man too."

"Really?"

"Really..."

Some might say that he was a typical arrogant young master who had not seen the world, or just a naive child suffering from delusions of grandeur, considering himself the greatest person in the world.

But whatever the opinions and sayings about him, this is what the boy truly believed, and he imposed his view on his twin brother and made him believe it too.

But the problem was that this grandfather, whom the two believed they greatest then him, had the right to punish and hold them accountable...

A right they never gave him and never acknowledged... Surprisingly, this made them even more arrogant, more rebellious... more hateful... and more insane.

With hair as white as snow, eyes as red as blood, and skin as white and pale as porcelain, the two did not resemble anyone in the family, and no one loved them. Those who knew their story despised them, and those who did not know them envied them.

Simply put, their lives had been strange since birth, and no one around them dared to be anything meaningful in their lives...

Despite this, the twins' relationship was not what one might imagine of twins whose lives revolve around themselves. Surprisingly, perhaps instinctively or by unspoken agreement, the two found a way to coexist without destroying their fragile relationship with their contrasting personalities.

Fortunately or unfortunately for them—no one knows—they were not affected by any external influences due to their lack of natural communication with the world, so the two imposed their own rules and laws as they pleased, with rational and irrational interpretations of life and its course.

In the end, no one could deny them except themselves; what they agreed was wrong was definitely wrong, and what they confirmed was right was definitely right.

When the court is empty and the laws are unwritten,

they could only be the prosecution and the defence, the perpetrator and the judge... the ruler and the ruled.

*******

He opened his bloodshot eyes slowly and blinked several times as if trying to comprehend where he was... After a few moments of bewilderment and silence, his mind began to work again, sorting through the chaos of his memories... That's right, the two had escaped from the escorts their grandfather had assigned to them using the space ability of his twin brother, Rainer, and ended up in a random alley. Within two minutes, they had been kidnapped, and that was the last thing he remembered.

He tried to move but couldn't, realising he was tied to a chair with his hands behind his back, close to Rainer. He raised his head and whispered

"Hey, Rainer, are you awake?"

The twin opened his eyes, which were even stranger and calmer than his younger brother's, and asked, although he didn't seem worried as he looked indifferently at the dirty room where they were tied up and the sunset visible through the window...

"Are you hurt?"

"No... but we're going to be late getting home."

He spoke in a sad tone, for their day had been wasted because of those bastards. Didn't they know how difficult it was to escape from that damn house?

"Why does it matter?"

"It will make the old man angry."

"He's always angry."

"But what if he punishes us and forgets us in the basement again?"

"I see... Let's buy some food just in case."

"You're smart, Rainer."

"Of course I am, Ritter."

The two stopped talking when the door opened and the gangsters entered, talking and laughing, cheap wine in their hands.

Ritter asked,

"What do we do with them?" "

"Oh, it looks like the little rabbits are awake."

One of the gangsters interrupted them, waving a cheap dagger in his hand and approaching theatrically, thinking he looked scary, but he looked ridiculous, like a clown... At least that's what the twins thought, especially when he put one foot on the chair and then put the dagger to the neck of Rainer, who was closest to him.

"Now, cute little rabbit, how much do you think your father will pay for you?"

Rainer calmly looked at the dagger at his neck. He showed no fear, which surprised the gangster a little, so he lowered his foot and began to act more cautiously.

"Oh, you don't seem afraid, kid... Hmm, then who is your father?"

They weren't stupid after all. In this world, if a child wasn't afraid of adults, then the adults had to be afraid of him or his father if he was wearing expensive clothes.

Rainer ignored him completely and asked Ritter,

"What do you want to do with them?" "

"Um, that's difficult. We ran away from home to play, but these idiots ruined everything... Should we kill them?"

"But we won't be able to play like this."

"Oh, that's true. Then what should we do?"

Rainer looked at the gangsters who were listening to them and now seemed more cautious. It was clear to them that these two children were not just third-class rich kids.

Rainer smiled gently as he looked at them... Although it was a pure and beautiful smile for a twelve-year-old boy, it sent a shiver down their spines.

"Let's play cat and mouse with them then,"

"Wow, awesome, you're the best brother," said Ritter enthusiastically, his pale white face turned red with excitement as he laughed like a child who had received the greatest gift in the world.

"Yes, I know," Rainer replied calmly as Ritter burned the ropes that bound them. The gangsters backed away as they saw the black flames that left not even ashes of the rope. The twin brothers stood with similar faces and similar innocent smiles, but their eyes were those of madmen, especially when Rainer raised his hand, tapped his finger, and spoke in a calm and soft tone,

"Now, whoever can escape the maze will win. Begin."

They did not move for a moment, surprised and confused, but when the twin named Ritter took off and burned one of them in front of him with a single hand movement and a crazy laugh, he seemed clearly insane

Had these two children escaped from a mental hospital? They didn't even bother to ask the question or think about the answer as they ran out of the room, hearing behind them the calm voice of the calm brother speaking in a lazy tone, but with a hint of amusement

"Run away as far as you can. We'll start chasing you after counting to ten."

And the deranged brother began counting with a voice full of twisted excitement and a crazy laugh.

"1... 4... 7... 3..."

"It's not like that, Ritter."

"Oh, did I count wrong?"

"Yes, why did you go back to 3?"

"It's fun to make them not know when I'll get to 10, hee hee hee."

"Oh, you're a genius, Ritter."

" yeah, I know... Then 10... Let's play Rainer"

As they run away, they can hear the insane twins discussing their nonsense, their voices echoing in their ears no matter how fast they run. They don't understand how the two-story house they used to call headquarters has turned into a maze with no beginning and no end...

And behind them, two deranged children are chasing them...
