Penny's POV
"Alone?"
Savannah's voice is syrupy, seductive and deliberate. The kind of tone that makes you want to knock the glass out of her perfectly manicured hand and give her a hard.
Andrew doesn't answer immediately. He's looking at her the way you look at a pothole you can't avoid—resigned but braced for impact.
I step in front of him before he can say a word. "If you have something to say to Andrew, you can say it in front of me."
Her lips curve to a smile. "Oh, Penny. Some things are… better discussed privately, you know."
Andrew's jaw flexes. "Savannah, leave."
"But—"
"Now."
There's a beat of silence where I swear I can hear my own heart beating in my chest.
Then she gives me a long, knowing look, like she just planted something poisonous and is waiting for it to bloom. "Fine. I'll catch you later, Drew."
She glides down the hallway like she owns the house. I don't move until I hear the front door click shut.
