Chapter 73 - CHAPTER 73 (S3)

It wasn't too long before most of the group settled in the middle of the store, a bit exhausted. Resting up, and regaining their energy levels.

"This is boring." Maverick had broken the silence, of course.

"Do you expect a zombie apocalypse to be fun, Mave?" Dave asked, pretending to play with a controller.

Maverick just sighed, particularly loud. It sounded more like a groan though.

"Whenever school isn't open, it's usually fun." he stated casually, laying back and staring blankly at the ceiling.

"..Even this time?" Christian chimed in, while begrudgingly braiding Ruby's hair.

"..Maybe. I mean, when there's no action it's no fun."

"Seriously, Mave? You're enjoying this?" Dave raised an eyebrow. Dave himself loved action and adventure, but thiskind of adventure just straight up sent chills through him.

Maverick shrugged, as if it was normal. Everyone— well, close to everyone was dead. And he was.. enjoying it? Yes, thankful to be alive, but enjoying it is something else.

"Honestly, I'd rather go beat those brainless things in this situation too. It's soo borinnggg!" Waylen complained, throwing a mouse back and forth, improvising it as a tennis ball. It didn't bounce, he knew that, yet still chose to be annoyed about it.

"You can't genuinely expect it to be fun?" Axelle spoke up, leaned against a shelf, next to Perry.

"I kinda.. you know, kind of did." Maverick replied sarcastically. "To me, beating up brainless creatures sounds just as fun— if not, more fun than skipping school.

"No, It's that way. If those are our houses, then that's clearly north!" Perry's voice cut through the conversation.

"No, If the houses are here, then north is opposite." Christian argued, pointing somewhere.

They had gotten a map from somewhere and now they were arguing again, great.

"Seriously? Do you have no sense of direction, dude? It's that way." Perry crossed her arms.

"Hell no. There's no way it's that way. Ruby's house is south of there. And if that's the street, then it hasto be that one." Christian let out an exasperated sigh, rolling my eyes, and giving Perry an annoyed glance.

"That's completely wrong! East is that, West is the other way, and that's north!"

"Okay, so you're saying the sun sets this way, then? We both know that sun sets that way—"

"We aren't talking about the way the sun sets!" Perry cut him off short.

"Yeah, but I'm trying to prove my point. If that's not West, which way does the sun set from??"

"Okay, seriously, Christian. That's not the freakin' way. It's…" Perry stopped dead in her tracks. She felt that familiar, yet a burning gaze staring straight at her.

Perry slowly turned her head, and saw Ruby standing there, arms crossed and a displeased frown playing on her lips.

"..You guys should totally start runnin' right about now." Waylen mumbled to Christian, watching Ruby stand in front of them.

"Sorry."

"I'm sorry too, Ruby." Perry uttered an apology after Christian.

Eli sighed, watching Perry and Christian apologize for probably the fifth time today. To be fair, they actually hadn't fought for a while. Which, for anyone who knew the two, was very surprising. But to be fair, a lot had been going on the past few days.

Rexine was helping Darren by putting duct tape over Dave's mouth. Why? Simple— Dave was as annoying as ever.

Maverick felt he was next, so he left his fellow buddy and sat on the other side of the open area. Just to be safe.

"Sighh… It's so boring.." Waylen dramatically placed the back of his hand on his forehead, leaning back against Axelle's side.

"..Get off me, man." Axelle rolled her eyes and shoved Waylen away.

"Fine. Why don't we go out, then? I mean.. not that it's any more entertaining in here," Axelle suggested, slowly standing up, and brushing herself off.

"Mate, it sure as hell might not be any more fun, but it sure is bloody safer here."

".. He's got a point." Darren butted in, also standing up.

Whatever might've been the case, they ended up outside, looking over the familiar body littered streets.

"Who agreed to this?" Waylen groaned out, walking with a posture that'd get him killed one day.

"Mainly him, blame him." Dave said, pointing at Maverick, who was struggling with a zombie running— technically walking after him.

It wasn't until the group heard more human screams the chatter died down. Only a few feet away, they saw a middle aged woman, almost letting a zombie eat her alive. Ruby— who was quick to rush over, helped the woman. Blindly. Blinder than the zombies around them.

"Miss, are you alright?? Were you bitten?" Ruby asked, helping the woman up.

"Oh dear, thank you." The woman took Ruby's hand, and helped herself up.

The woman smiled politely at her, and took a step back.

The woman had brown hair, just about chest length. The colour being slightly similar to Christian's roots, a darker brown. Eyes light brown. Pale skin, almost like snow. She wasn't skinny, nor obese. Only a bit taller than Perry— maybe the same height.

"She seriously can't go helpin', strangers like that.." Christian sighed, rubbing his forehead, yet he walked forward towards them.

"No, really, thank you. And thankfully I wasn't bitten." The woman spoke with a humble tone.

Amidst the conversation they were all immersed in, Dave and Darren took the opportunity to go. Dave subtly poked Maverick, and pointed to the side.

"We'll be right back." Dave mumbled loud enough so that only Maverick heard him. Maverick, who was still focused on listening to the conversation, only spared a glance, and nodded with barely any attention on them.

It was silent for a few moments. The woman took that time to look over the few young teenagers in front of her. More than she'd expect in one group.

"My.. all of you seem quite young." She commented.

"Ah.. yeah," Perry replied, stepping forward to introduce them. Despite the risk coming with trusting a stranger, she seemed nice, plus she was alone. "I'm Perry.. And well, they're all my friends." Perry stated. She glanced to the side, and had to resist dissing Christian off.

"Red-haired over there is Axelle, and the ginger is Eli. The blue haired guy over there is Maverick, and the girl is Rexine. And.. that's Waylen. Ruby, and he's… Christian." Perry was about to point out Dave and Darren, but they didn't seem to be in sight. She raised an eyebrow, but decided not to make a big fuss about it just yet.

"Ah… I'm Lorrell. But do go by El."
