Chapter 72 - CHAPTER 72 (S3)

"Get this thing off of me!" Ruby yelled, trying her hardest to push the zombie off. Christian stood aside, not wanting to get hit by Ruby, since she was, well… pushing very aggressively.

Finally, Ruby managed to kick the zombie off of her. She stood up without saying anything, watching the zombie closely, still trembling a little.

"Ruby! Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?" Rexine rushed to her side, checking for any possible injuries. Perry stood at her other side, making sure she was alright as well.

The zombie which had been kicked away had regained its balance, its gaze now piercing right through anyone who dared to watch it. It actually seemed alive. Dave was absolutely freaked now, taking a step back, hiding behind Waylen.

"Hmph, scaredy cat." Waylen mumbled to Dave as he held Waylen's shoulders.

"Okay, why don't we actually get the hell out of here?" Eli suggested, turning around. That was before the zombie lunged at anyone it could reach. Which just happened to be Waylen.

Waylen being the aggressive person he was, pushed away the zombie when it came at him. But only for it to sprint back at him. Waylen wasn't sure how, but the zombie was definitely smarter than others. No doubt about it.

"What the hell!" Waylen cursed, violently shoving the zombie away again. This time, he took a step back. More observant and wary. Darren stepped forward only to lend Waylen a metal tray with blood smeared at the back.

"What the—" Waylen cut himself off, abruptly returning his attention to the zombie instead. He gladly took the tray, and bashed it at the creature's head. With a satisfied smile, Waylen stepped back, watching the zombie cough out blood. Though the zombie was more like a human through other traits, it sure as hell didn't look like one.

"Lets leave. We need to get out of here." Perry stated, turning around.

Groan.

Perry snapped her head back at the groan, concerned there might be more than just a few zombies on the floor.

"Yeah.. Please, let's get the hell out." Axelle added, following behind Perry.

As they were technically run-walking out, Maverick spotted oversized clothes and made a cheeky comment.

"That looks like something my dad would wear," Maverick pointed to an oversized shirt, laying on the ground in clean condition, unlike the floor surrounding it.

"You aren't wrong, for once." Rexine said, snickering quietly as they continue to make their way out of the building.

The group managed to file out, though barely. Eli and Darren barricaded the door with a few metal pipes lying around. The zombie did follow after, though fortunately they were still too slow to catch the group.

"Gosh, that was something." Christian muttered under his breath, Ruby eagerly nodded.

"I knew the zombies around this area were smarter," Perry commented, catching her breath. Looking around, there weren't any zombies around for at least half a mile radius. Which considering the noise they made, was pretty far.

"That's weird.. Are they going somewhere else?"

"Like where, Ax?" Waylen replied almost immediately, as if he wanted to argue with her. Axelle knew better though, and rolled her eyes, not replying to him.

"Hey guys, look over here." Darren called out, standing near a store, which looked like a tech one. Of course, Darren was first to it.

"Wait for me!" Maverick called out, enthusiastically sprinting towards Darren. Perry, Ruby and well— the rest followed along.

Upon entering, the store was partially empty, aside from the few bodies lying around.

Eli and Perry happened to be taking the lead, waltzing through like they owned the place— Okay, that was an over exaggeration.

The rest followed behind. It was a partially open area, not easy to get lost around and in aisles, thankfully.

"This place is bloody," Eli started. "Literally." He added, walking around. The group silently split, Darren immediately walking to the laptop displays.

Ruby just roaming around, and spotted… hair dryers. She sighed.

Everything reminded her of Nicole.

And not just silly things that were related to inside jokes and whatnot, literally everything. Was he seriously leaving them, for good?

Perry was walking through with Christian, since Rexine decided to go with Maverick, and Axelle with Waylen.. into an odd aisle.

Eli with Ruby, oddly enough. Only because Eli noticed she was alone. Dave with Darren, not knowing where else to go anyway.

Maverick then proceeded to ditch Rexine, and ran off towards Dave. Maverick showed him a mouse that he thought looked sick as hell— for all the wrong reasons.

"Yo, Dave! Look at this dead mouse! I didn't know they looked so.. odd and different!" Maverick said, approaching Dave, who ultimately just sighed.

"Maverick, that's an electrical mouse, yo. Not a literal mouse." Dave turned around, looking at Maverick holding the mouse in hand.

"Even if it was.. why would you hold it like.. that?" Dave asked, raising an eyebrow. Maverick was holding it inside both his palms, like some sort of expensive jewelry he'd accidentally break if he held it with too much force.

Maverick simply shrugged. "Aw man, I thought it was literal." he frowned.

Meanwhile, Perry and Christians banter—no, argument..which was less frequent, echoed through the whole store, if not, for a usual radius of 30 miles.

"I already told you, That's not how it works!" Perry fumed, arms crossed.

"Well without a computer, what's the point of a keyboard anyways?!" Christian countered, on the verge of grabbing Perry and close to strangling her.

"Well without the internet there would be no computers!"

"So what?? I mean there's offline stuff you can do! That's like saying what's the point of an AC when there's winter!"

"No. No, not even partially the same thing! You can't possibly be comparing weather to this. Dumbass, that's like—"

Axelle quickly cut through their typical conversation, looking at them like they were crazy. Waylen beside her.

"Great. What are you two arguing about this time? Who should be put into a pit of zombies first? Newsflash: The zombies would retaliate because of you both being so obnoxious." Waylen only snickered beside her.

As their argument came to an abrupt stop, Perry turned to them. She narrowed her eyes, scoffing under her breath. As if they were any better.

"And you guys are supposed to be.. better? If anything, worse." Perry spoke. Who were they, interrupting the completely normal and just very heated debate between her and Christian.

"Us? Worse?" Waylen crossed his arms defiantly. "No way in hell— listen up, Periwinkle, You guys are like two loudspeakers that never shut up! Me and uh, Axelle here are on mute, all the time. Even if we tried our best, there's no other duo here that could beat you guys."

"Uh… thanks?" Christian tilted his head to the side a bit, glancing at Perry for a moment. Perry pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Not a compliment. Emphasis on not." Perry mumbled to Christian. "And you guys on mute? That's like saying 'Fish fly'." Perry stubbornly retorted.

"They do!" Waylen snapped back, not thinking twice on what he just defended.

"No Len, you're kinda wrong there.." Axelle muttered to him with an exasperated sigh.
