Chapter 18 - You can’t cook

This is unacceptable," Elder Mira hissed. "A human in the Alpha's bed will weaken our bloodline."

"She is not one of us," Varun growled, his gaze sweeping the table. "If she fails, it will reflect on all of us. The Crescent Moon Pack already mocks us behind closed doors."

Elder Dorian leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled. "Then we must ensure she proves herself… or is removed."

Mira's eyes gleamed. "A trial, then? Quiet. Unseen. If she cannot survive the challenges of our kind, she will leave of her own accord—or be… persuaded."

Varun smirked, the expression cold. "Kael will think she gave up on him. He won't even realize we guided the outcome."

"And if she survives?" one elder asked.

Dorian's smirk deepened. "Then perhaps the girl is more than she appears. Either way, we win."

They nodded in grim agreement, sealing a silent pact.

I told kael there will be a trial and he got so angry, his wolf was ready toeat me up that instant" Elder brannor uttered

We don't care if he gets angry, We will go on with the trial" Elder mira said hitting the table.

The next morning, Kael's wolf wouldn't stop nagging.

Feed them. Provide. She'll like it.

Against his better judgment, he found himself in the kitchen, frowning at pans and ingredients like they were enemies. By the time Evelyn and Lily came downstairs, the table was set—though the presentation was… questionable.

Lily blinked in surprise. "Evie, Mr. Arrogant made breakfast! Is it poisoned?"

Kael smirked. "Yes. Definitely poisoned. Don't eat it."

Evelyn gave him a flat look before taking a cautious bite. The moment the salty taste hit her tongue, she coughed. Lily tried hers and immediately spat it back out.

"You really don't know how to cook!" Lily squealed, clutching her stomach in laughter.

Evelyn tried to hide her smile. "I can teach you, you know."

Kael's chair scraped back as he stood abruptly. "Bad idea," he muttered under his breath to his wolf. "Told you this was stupid."

It wasn't stupid, the wolf growled, she smiled at us.

Evelyn and Lily were still giggling as Kael stalked off, but a little later, she found herself climbing the stairs to his study.

She stepped inside quietly. "Thank you… for breakfast."

He didn't look up from his papers. "I was forced," he said flatly. "Don't think I care."

But she caught the faintest twitch at the corner of his mouth before she left, smiling to herself.
