Night had draped over the mansion when Maris stood to leave.
"I really wish you could stay with me," Evelyn said softly.
Maris touched her arm. "I'll be fine. Just take care of yourself for me, Evie."
After Maris left, Evelyn tucked Lily into bed. She lingered there, watching the little girl's peaceful face, thinking of the day ahead—the surgery was getting closer. The thought made her smile faintly.
It was getting late and still, something in her didn't want the night to end. She found herself waiting for Kael to return. Maybe it was because he'd barely touched his breakfast this morning. Maybe it was something else entirely.

under the cold pull of the moon, Kael and Lucien walked toward the council's meeting hall at the pack.
Before they could enter, Selene appeared this time with an omega trailing behind her.
She broke away from the omega as she sighted kael with his beta Lucien, then remembering the incomplete moment they had together and she walked towards him practically threw herself at Kael.
Hello Alpha kael"
"Can we continue where we left off alpha?" she purred.
Kael's wolf bristled instantly, as he was not in the mood for this, his claws threatening to break free.
With a snarl, he shoved her back, his claws slipping just past his skin in warning.
Lucien's smirk was infuriatingly amused. "If you don't want her, Alpha, I can take over. I do enjoy the company of beautiful women especially beautiful curved she wolves."
Kael ignored him, pushing him as they walked to the meeting chamber.
"Your obsession with women needs a limit Lucien"
Well, at least my obsession with p***y doesn't have a limit" kael stared at him giving him a disgusting look.
No one dared go close to help selene up, Being an Alpha meant no one dared to question his actions but his patience was already razor-thin.
Inside, the elders sat in a half-circle, their expressions unreadable.
He walked in with Lucien behind him, he stood in front of all of them.
"Stop playing with her mind," Kael ordered, his voice carrying the weight of command.
One of them leaned forward, eyes glinting. "We haven't even started yet, Alpha Draven."
At the taunt, Kael's claws burst fully from his fingers, the sharp points curling into his palm until the pressure snapped a glass on the table. Shards bit into his skin, blood dripping onto the wood.
"Let's see how far you can go to protect your human mate," another elder murmured.
Kael didn't answer—he just bared his teeth in a smile that promised blood.
As he walked out to entered the car parked for him, his cut healed immediately.
I hate this bunch of elders, they are annoying to the core" Lucien muttered.
