Chapter 6 - Warlocks

Researchers are those that actively and deeply research mana, magic, the elements, and many other things.

Even, creators who focus on creating new things are researchers too.

The most notable faction of the research path are the Arcanists – they focus solely on researching magic power and have made great achievements over the years. Their direct power is no less than warlocks, and many functional spells, such as Magic Hand, have been created by them.

They are known for their deep knowledge of magic and usually have the largest reservoir of spells among all wizards. Although they aren't as good with Runes as the Rune faction itself, their spellology surpasses them by far.

The research path is relatively new and has only been made a separate path after the emergence of the Arcane faction.

Lastly, there is the Warlock path – the most ancient and strongest path.

Warlocks have countless factions, even the representative are already many – Bloodline, Elementalists, Ritualists, Magic Warriors, and so on.

The reason for this is that every warlock takes many different factions together, forming their own style. In the core, they are all extremely versatile and strong fighters.

An arcanist might have equally high output, but their means and abilities are rather low. They might only have one or two spells that compare, while a Warlock will have at least double that amount of spells.

The reason for this being simple – even before the Arcane Warlock Wizard Tower, there were many warlocks who learned many factions.

For example, you would have one magic path, such as the elementalist, focusing on an element and learning many spells. Then you could also transform your body – whether by drinking potions to enhance strength, imbuing a bloodline into your body to transform it, or even transmutate your body by adding various body parts to your body.

And if you still had room, you could learn a few mental attack spells from the soul path.

Although finally, the split focus will inevitably have a few disadvantages, these disadvantages aren't the focus of warlocks. Warlocks might learn creation or research just to boost their own progress, but the Wizard Alliance was united and there were countless creators and researchers.

Once they found something great, they would upload it to the magic database of the Alliance, for everyone to benefit from it… naturally they would also be rewarded with many things.

So generally, even if a Warlock never creates or researches, he will still be able to advance.

The reason for why the Wizard Alliance allows such a wizard, who doesn't produce but only consumes, to exist, is because they have their own roles.

When it comes to war, Warlocks are on the frontline, risking their life and fighting for the Alliance's benefits.

It is because of this that after so many years, there are still so many new warlocks, growing more and more.

After all, the planar expedition has started, and warlocks are in need everywhere – especially high level strong warlocks!

When he thought of the warlocks and how many teachers in the school told him that the Warlock path was supreme, Elios wanted to laugh. How could he oversee this manipulation?

The Arcane Warlock Wizard Tower had Warlock in the name, even the Arcane was included to take the strong output of arcanes, not the research!

Even though Elios knew this was manipulation, his plan had already foreseen him to follow it, so, with looks full of admiration and optimism, he said "I want to follow the path of Warlocks, explore the Sea of Stars and conquer myriad worlds!"

Yelio nodded "A very good choice! Have you already thought when you want to do so?"

"When I become a first-ring wizard, after preparation, I want to explore directly!"

The three were suddenly stunned and looked at him with confused looks – sure they told the children that Warlocks are the greatest and conquering worlds is the best contribution, but they emphasized many times that this should be done only when they were strong, at least in the second stage!

But, even though they were stunned, they didn't out right reject his idea.

Although he was talented, there are countless talented people in the world… and, he seems to have a certain level of luck. If he really stumbles upon a world, the Wizard Alliance would reward their Tower!

The three then talked a bit more, making casual encouragement remarks such as "You will be rewarded if you work hard", then left his room.

Elios looked at their backs as they disappeared in thin air – this was a movement spell, one basically every wizard had.

He looked at it greedily, wishing he could use it on the spot.

Unfortunately, he didn't learn the runes for them.

When you engrave runes, you can use them as you wish even outside of spells.

This is why, even if you don't engrave spells, you can still use them.

But the difference is also rather large – engraved spells can be activated in an instant, their consumption of mana is low, and your control over them is high.

In comparison, if you only know the spells, you first have to chant them, then expend mana and finally control it with a vague feeling.

Only veteran wizards are able to control the spells better – but the part of chanting will never disappear.

In fact, the chanting is only a few seconds long, but in a fight, these few seconds are enough to cause your death!

"With every engraved rune, you not only get a spell slot, but also a new combination possibility for runes.

Although only a few combinations work, being able to use a few extra spells without having to expend learning time is very valuable! Even if these spells are only daily use things and not for fights, fights are short but a life is long.

Having more conveniences is definitely great!"

Elios fantasized a bit longer until he calmed down, putting his focus back on his sea of consciousness.

When the rune materialized, he felt a certain pull from the Gate…
