Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Recruiting Akemi

"I saw you at the bank teller window when I was withdrawing money. You were distracted, looking around suspiciously. I knew right away something was up."

"I did some checking and found out your real name isn't Masami Hirota, it's Akemi Miyano!"

"From my professional perspective, for you to use a fake name to work at a bank, it's most likely because you're planning to rob it."

Shiraishi E gave Akemi Miyano a reasonably plausible explanation. Akemi immediately believed him. It wasn't that she was naive or too trusting. It was because she was a complete novice in this line of work, totally in the dark about everything. She had been fumbling through it all on her own. She didn't find it strange at all that someone could see through her so easily.

"Is that so? I guess I was that obvious," Akemi said with a bitter smile, genuinely thinking her cover was poorly done.

Seeing that he had successfully duped Akemi, Shiraishi E felt a sense of relief and said calmly, "Tell me, why do you want to rob the bank?"

Although he already knew the reason, he still had to ask. Her answer would help him gauge her level of trust in him.

Akemi hesitated for a moment. Considering her current situation, it seemed she had no other choice. Could she really rob a bank of one billion yen on her own? It might be better to follow this veteran. At least there would be a glimmer of hope.

With this thought, she began to speak. "It's like this. My sister and I grew up in a criminal organization. Now, we want to leave that place."

"The organization demanded one billion yen for our freedom."

"That's why I decided to take the risk and rob a bank for the money!!"

Hearing Akemi tell the truth, Shiraishi E nodded to himself. He was once again certain that his decision to help her was the right one. She was a good person. If she hadn't been forced by the organization, she wouldn't have gone down this path.

Thinking this, Shiraishi E said slowly, "You shouldn't be robbing a bank... It takes so much time and risk for such a small amount of money, and you'll be a top priority for the police. It's not worth it!!"

"If you're going to rob someone, rob the gang bosses, the criminals!"

"Even if you take them out, the police will just see it as gang infighting. They won't bother with it."

Akemi wasn't ignorant of this logic. She said helplessly, "I've thought about that too. But with my frail build, how could I dare to provoke them?"

Shiraishi E smiled slightly. "If we partner up, it won't be a problem!"

He picked up the MP9 and said enthusiastically, "The MP9 submachine gun has a muzzle velocity of 370 meters per second, a rate of fire of 900 rounds per minute, and an optimal range of 50-100 meters."

"It can empty a 20-round magazine in less than a second!!"

"Numbers mean nothing against this!"

"I have plenty of these."

After showing off his firepower, Shiraishi E laid out the terms of their partnership. "As long as you can find the transaction locations of criminals, I can send them to meet Jesus in minutes! We'll split the money fifty-fifty. How about it?"

Akemi was tempted by the offer. All she had to do was gather information and she would get paid? Wasn't that much safer than robbing a bank herself? Besides, having grown up in the organization, she had learned a thing or two and knew some of the ropes.

"Okay. I can give it a try," Akemi nodded in agreement.

Shiraishi E picked up a briefcase from the floor. "The contact information is inside. Let me know when you have news."

With that, he didn't linger and got up to leave. As he passed Akemi, he pushed the MP9 into her hands. "Consider this a welcoming gift."

"!!!" Akemi was completely shocked. She looked at the cold weapon in her hands, then up at the departing Azu, a thought flashing through her mind—Isn't he afraid I'll shoot him?

Seeing him open the door and leave so calmly, Akemi was filled with admiration. So this is what a crime lord is like? Impressive! Just his composure alone is something I could never match.

Thinking this, a spark of hope ignited in her desolate heart. It felt like she was finally seeing a ray of light!!

In reality, Shiraishi E wasn't that magnanimous or composed. The guns purchased from the "Bandit Mall" couldn't be stored in the system's inventory. Walking around openly with a submachine gun was just asking for trouble, so he had casually handed it to her. Besides, taking off the safety and chambering a round makes a sound. If he had heard Akemi do either, he would have taken her out in an instant.

"What's in this case?" Akemi temporarily set the MP9 aside. She picked up the case and opened it to find it filled with various surveillance devices, complete with instruction manuals. There was also a dedicated phone for communication.

A smile spread across Akemi's face. She was finally experiencing the joy of having a powerful ally. He had given her such a great starter pack right from the beginning! This would make her intelligence work much easier!! This Mr. Azu was far more generous than Gin and the others, giving her a gun and equipment. This comparison immediately raised her opinion of him significantly.

Ever since meeting Akemi, Shiraishi E felt like he had something to look forward to. Even school didn't seem so boring anymore. A person really needs to find something interesting to do to rekindle their passion for life!

Robbing a bank could easily harm innocent people and would attract the police, causing a lot of trouble. So, he had persuaded Akemi to change careers. They would specifically target gangs and criminals. Not only would they be fighting crime, but they would also be robbing the rich to help the poor, satisfying his own moral needs.

A triple win! It was a total victory! Isn't this so much better than robbing a bank?

Besides, Beika was often called "Little Gotham." It would be a waste not to put his talents to good use! Since the police couldn't manage it, he would! In this day and age, even a phantom thief can be a hero. Why can't a bandit fight crime?
