Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Flexibly Adjusting One's Principles

The next few days were relatively quiet.

After school, Shiraishi E would train with Ran. Occasionally, Sonoko would drag him over to the tennis club for a match. But most of his attention was on the system's mission.

[Mission: Acquire one billion yen in illicit funds. Current Progress: 0]

Shiraishi E had already figured out how to complete this mission.

Masami Hirota!

In the anime, she orchestrates a bank robbery and gets away with one billion yen. All he had to do was intercept the money from her. Then the mission would be perfectly accomplished, right?

Originally, Shiraishi E wanted to investigate himself, but the bank's working hours clashed with his school schedule. By the time he was out of school, the bank was closed.

Left with no other choice, he hired a private detective to find her. With the key clues "Masami Hirota" and "bank employee," finding her wasn't difficult. The problem now was that Shiraishi E didn't know when Masami Hirota would make her move. This made him a little anxious.

He glanced at the dense list of skills on his personal panel and sighed. "Once a person becomes strong, they can't help but want to do something... It seems I've been influenced by the system after all."

Shiraishi E had thought he could resist the system's sugar-coated bullets. He'd eat the sugar and throw the bullets back. But reality showed him it wasn't that simple. When a person gains power, how can they endure a quiet life? It's like a rich person trying to maintain their old spending habits. It's especially hard when he knows the plot of the anime. If he did nothing, his mind wouldn't be at ease.

He had transmigrated, yet the anime's plot was unfolding just as before. Did he transmigrate for nothing?

With this thought, Shiraishi E flexibly adjusted his principles.

Eleven o'clock at night.

"Whew... take care on your way," Masami Hirota said, parting with her colleague at the izakaya entrance before heading towards her rented apartment.

The cool night breeze sobered her up a bit.

She let out a soft sigh. Another night without getting any useful information. At this rate, when would she ever be able to rob the bank? How long would it take to gather one billion yen?

Tired and lost, Masami Hirota walked for over twenty minutes back to her apartment. She changed her shoes and entered the living room.

Without even turning on the lights, Masami Hirota threw herself onto the sofa and let her mind go blank. Work was already exhausting, and she had to spend all her effort trying to get information about the armored car, not to mention fending off her colleagues' advances.

"Maybe I should just give up?" Masami Hirota whispered to herself, the thought of backing out creeping into her mind. "After all, I'm just an ordinary person."

"Before this, I was a law-abiding, model citizen."

"Suddenly asking me to get one billion yen, this is really too much to ask of me."

"Ah... they are indeed making things difficult for me. They don't want me and my sister to leave at all."

As she spoke, Masami Hirota continued to sigh, feeling dejected.

Just then, a voice suddenly echoed in the living room: "You think it's difficult because you've chosen the wrong path!"

"Besides robbing a bank, what other way is there for me to get one billion yen in a short time?" Masami Hirota said helplessly. "I'm just an ordinary person, not smart like my sister."

"Bank security is tight. Of course, it's not easy to rob one! Think differently. Go after the gangs, the criminals. Wouldn't that be much easier?" the voice said again.

Masami Hirota retorted irritably, "Me, rob them? That's more like a suicide mission!"

She was about to say more when she suddenly felt something was wrong.

Wait, I live alone... Who am I talking to?

Oh no, I've worked myself into a state of schizophrenia.

Just as Masami Hirota was starting to question her own sanity, the voice spoke again: "Don't worry, I can help you. I'm very good at taking down criminals!"

This time, she realized what was happening. It wasn't that she was losing her mind, but that there was a second person in the living room.

Masami Hirota quickly sat up from the sofa. She scanned the pitch-black room and asked nervously, "Who are you?"

A sigh came from the darkness, tinged with a hint of helplessness. "Stop looking, I'm sitting right next to you. Your night vision is terrible... go turn on the light."

Masami Hirota hesitated for a moment, but then thought that if the person really meant her harm, they would have acted already instead of talking to her. So, she gathered her courage, got up, and turned on the living room light.

Click.

The light flooded the room, and Masami Hirota saw a man sitting on the sofa wearing a red mask that covered half his face. In his hand, he held an MP9 submachine gun.

At that moment, her heart sank. Any thought of resistance vanished completely.

"Excuse me... who are you?" Masami Hirota asked cautiously.

"Just call me Azu," Shiraishi E replied, then pointed to the spot next to him. "Sit."

"I... I'm fine standing," Masami Hirota said with a professional smile, waving her hands to decline. She asked nervously, "Mr. Azu, what can I do for you?"

Shiraishi E asked, "If I say I'm here to help you, would you believe me?"

"..." Masami Hirota hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

Right, she clearly doesn't believe me but is too scared to say so, opting to just nod along.

Shiraishi E saw right through her. However, he could understand. If he came home one day and saw a masked man with a gun claiming to be there to help, he probably wouldn't believe it either.

Shiraishi E felt a bit helpless about this. If he didn't do it this way, he would have to waste a lot of time and effort convincing Masami Hirota to trust him. But the problem was, they were complete strangers with no connection. Why would she believe him? Any normal person wouldn't, right?

It was better to help her in a different way. As the old saying goes, do good deeds without asking for anything in return. As long as he could help, the method didn't matter.
