Chapter 9 - 8. Eavesdropping

"Oh so she was the one who you fought with 3 years ago." Aiden laughed merrily as Tan unfolded the unfortunate first encounter of Jennifer's with him. "I fought with? She started the fight, how can you say that." Tan shook his head, tapping his lips with the napkin as he just finished his lunch. "OK! whatever makes you sleep at night." Aiden laughed with a full mouth now.

"Brother, eat properly. You are spitting out your food." Tan let out a sigh, standing up and walked towards the door to open it. As soon as he opened the cabin door, he looked down as a whole Jennifer Wilson leaned on him, with her ear pressed to his chest. He opened the door when she was standing outside, literally eavesdropping their conversation, but failed to do so.

She was so concentrated on her work that she didn't realize when he opened the door and when her body, which was leaning on the door, now leaned on him. "What the hell?" Tan muttered under his breath, looking down at her, and she immediately straightened her posture, lowering her head.

Shit...!

Flashback :-

Jennifer was walking back and forth biting her fingernails in front of her boss' cabin.

"What should I do? What if Mr. Aiden told him everything I said, I'd be dead. What should I do? Should I eavesdrop? No, what are you thinking Jenn, are you mad or what? He probably has two or three secret cameras installed here, outside his cabin.

"Argh, whatever!" Jennifer groaned and finally did what her heart was saying. She leaned, keeping her ear on the door, trying to listen to the conversation going on inside, even though she knew that the cabin was soundproof.

Jennifer was trying to listen to the conversation going on inside. A few minutes later, the door opened, and before she retreated her head, her head ended on someone's chest, who's called Tan Williams.

"What the hell?" Tan muttered under his breath, looking down at her, and she immediately straightened her posture, lowering her head.

"Shit!" Jennifer whispered, closing her eyes tightly.

"Now, will you please stop leaning on me." Tan said, rolling his eyes.

"Sorry sir!" Jennifer muttered and was about to lean away but felt a stinging pain in her ear, "ouch."

"Now, what happened?" Tan said, feeling annoyed.

"My earring, it's s-stuck to your shirt's b-button." Jennifer said stuttering, still leaning on him.

"I'll remove it." Jennifer said, forwarding her hand towards his button, but a hand held hers, stopping her.

"I'll do it, you won't be able to without looking." Tan said and removed it after a bit of struggle.

All of this was seen by two pairs of eyes, but the only difference was the thoughts of the owners of the two pairs of eyes.

Aiden, who was eating with his mouth full, had his jaw hanging, shocked to see his hard-hearted brother, acting warmly. In one corner of his heart he was happy and was hoping the duo in front of him to be together.

Emma, who was coming towards Tan's cabin for some work, the thing happening in front of her eyes made her blood boil in hate, anger and jealousy. Her heart knows that the man she dreams of can never be hers, but her mind always overpowers her heart and forces her to do everything that can make her closer to Tan. She's not the bad kind, but the personality she unknowingly had in everyone's eyes made her bad.

Jennifer stood frozen there, with her head lowered down, staring at the floor as if it was the most beautiful that ever existed. The only thing she was thinking was, only if the floor beneath her would crack into two halves, and she could disappear in the arms of the earth. She was scared, anxious, nervous and embarrassed. "What on earth were you doing, Miss Wilson?"

This was the first time Tan used her last name to address her, which made her realize that what big of a mistake she did, but can she escape from the current situation? The answer is, a big NO. Tan's glaring eyes stared down at her. As if his towering height wasn't intimidating, alone that his continuous glare was adding up to the spice now.

"S-Si-Sir..." Jennifer's voice trembled and the file that she was holding shivered along with her hand. Of course, she had already come up with another plan, if she was going to get caught, but executing it was getting difficult, because of the intimidating eyes of the man standing before her.

No doubt she was here to know what talks were going on inside. She was low-key, scared that Aiden would tell everything that she said to him about his younger brother and that she would get fired anytime soon. Getting fired was not really her concern, but the disappointed look she would get from her family was, she knew, that if her family got to know the reason she got fired for, she'd be doomed.

Right now, she was regretting eavesdropping on their conversation. "I-I was h-here to get your signature here." She raised the file that she was holding.

"For that you have to come inside. What exactly are you doing here?" His face showed how he was not at all convinced by Jennifer's white lie.

"I was about to come-"

"For that you need to knock" Tan said, folding his arms, interrupting her in between.

"I was about to-"

"You were about to knock with your ears? That's something new." Jennifer stood dumbfounded by his witty replies and interruption.

"Well, I believe you are capable of doing that." She frowned at his reply and looked at him with a scrunched-up face. What does he mean?

"What?"

Tan's one glare and Jennifer straightened her face immediately. "Get in and wait. I am coming." Giving her a last glare, he left the room, and she hastily walked inside, and stood in front of an eating Aiden.

"Mr. Williams." Jennifer called out, making Aiden raise his head to look at her, with a mouth full of food and big eyes.

"Yes?" He replied.

"I am really sorry for everything that I said." Jennifer said, lowering her head, asking for his forgiveness. He showed her his palm and chewed the food first. "I am not angry or anything. No worries." She heaved out a breath of relief after hearing him.

"But you shouldn't trust anyone and say things to them. What if someone complains about you?" Aiden raised his brow.

"I won't do that again. I will never." She said, shaking her head in denial.

"You are very naive." He smiled warmly at her, and she blinked her eyes, fiddling with her fingers, not knowing what to say.
