Chapter 62: The Flick of a Finger.

In the woods, right in proportion to a hazardous waterfall.
"Did you find it?!"
"Yes, but her trail is too faint. Jad isn't used to tracking it. She doesn't smell like us."
"Then let's move!" Sam shifted after a jump, twisting and turning into a giant black wolf, as the others did the same beside him. "And where the heck is Jared!"
The other wolf stepped forward. "He's already on the move and…"
"And what?!" Sam turned away, head shifting toward Jad, who was staring in a certain direction, his feet pounding the ground in preparation for a sprint.
"He let Jacob come with him, and Billy allowed it. He's the one who shaved his head."
A growl escaped Sam's teeth. "So what?! Jacob isn't part of our pack. He makes his own decisions."
Beside them, Jad suddenly howled, then sprinted without question.
"Move!" Sam sprinted second, slamming against some trees before he vanished.
Then, in less than a moment, the others vanished after him.

{ELSEWHERE}
"Bella!" Vlad hung his arm around her, took off her hat, and then attempted to rub her head, but she escaped from his grasp before he could do it.
Then, from the other end, Emmett sprinted with inhuman speed, grabbed Vlad similarly, and then ruffled his hair.
The others laughed at the sight.
Vlad brushed him off and fixed his hair. "You got the snacks!"
A pack of Skittles cut the air with unseen speed, reaching Vlad, who caught it with little effort.
"Nice catch," Bella said, her eyes widening beside him.
"Not really." Esme appeared from the side, both arms and hands interlocked with Carlisle's. "He can probably do better."
"Oh, way better," Carlisle commented.
Beside them, Edyth threw a baseball that rumbled like thunder the moment Jasper caught it.
"The storm hasn't started yet!" Rosalie muttered, grabbing the bat from Emmett, who was insisting that Alice throw him the other one.
Edward's head shifted upward. "Well, it's about to."
Then above them, as though by command, thunder rumbled, its strings stretching like light, lighting the field.
Bella shivered from the roar, but Edward put an arm around her shoulder, then kissed her on the cheek.
Most of them smiled, the only exception being Vlad, who was sneering.
"Don't—"
They all laughed after Alice jumped and started kissing him on the neck.
"Are we doing this or what!" Emmett's voice was a burly, audible sound, with thunder screaming above them like a child, its clouds hovering below the light, leaving only remnants for those it deemed fit.
Or, in a way, preparing for his return.

{ELSEWHERE}
Leah moved through the woods like a blur, her smaller frame unrestrictedly slipping between them.
Steps silent, pace swift.
Then she stopped. The trail she had been following was suddenly replaced by something else, something with an even more potent smell.
Leah growled at the howls miles behind her, but she didn't look back.
Even though the trail had lost its scent, she still started following.
It was obvious who it belonged to; she was just oblivious to the truth, too blinded by the fact that an imprint was nothing more than attraction to him.
She didn't know what he was. She didn't know his nature.
A tree flew ten feet after she slammed into it, her body spinning to the side, blood slowly seeping from her shoulder after slamming into another.
Faint whines escaped her lips, but still, she stood, then started running forward, even though her pace had halved and the sprint turned to nothing more than limps.
Those behind her still followed, still trailing her at full force, even if it was from a mile's distance apart.
She was driven by pure delusion, but soon she would find out.

{ELSEWHERE}
Vlad's figure sped past the trees like a breeze. In mere seconds, he stopped, laughing at Bella, whose arms were clenching harder on his neck.
"You ready?!" he asked, smiling when Bella nodded, then, quirky, sprinting to the approaching sound of a whistle.
After reaching an appropriate speed, he leaped upward, flicked a finger, and moved his head to the side for Bella to catch the baseball, which had now reached them at a third of the speed.
Then Vlad zoomed toward the others, Bella holding the ball even tighter to prevent it from slipping.
"Throw it!"
Bella threw it with all her strength.
Then, with a finger's flicker, it whistled past the air, reaching Esme's hand before her eyes could even register.
"You are out!"
Edward paused, his eyes widened when the words reached him. He hadn't even reached halfway yet.
"They cheated!" Emmett screamed with laughter, but got tackled by Jasper, who was beside him.
Esme giggled after Vlad returned. "Don't listen to him, dear."
"Oh, na, I won't." He dropped Bella, sending her falling butt-first on the ground.
Bella stood up, dusting the dirt. "You?"
Edward darted in an instant, laughing while brushing off bits of leaves from her hair.
"I literally threw the ball!" she huffed.
"Threw it?" They all laughed at Vlad's words. "As if your throw did anything."
"Okay, okay, stop rubbing it in," Rosalie said, her arms folded below her chest.
But she instantly dropped all pretense as Emmett pulled her in for a deep kiss.
"Well, I beat you twice," Emmett said after pulling back, causing all around them to laugh at Rosalie's reddened cheeks.
Alice interlocked her arm with Vlad's , a smile embracing her lips, his eyes occasionally drifting toward her.
But then, suddenly.
Her eyes widened, and her body paused for a second too long.
After the drain of a moment, right when everyone noticed it.
"Stop!" Her gaze turned to the mist beside them. "They are here. It's too late."
