Maultner was breathing with exhilaration. I looked at him deeply.
"What?" He asked laughingly.
I shook the troubling thoughts out of my head. Could I tell him that Freur had a hidden compartment of silver dedicated solely for him?
"What do you know about moon flower?" I asked instead.
"Just about what everybody else knows. A rare werewolf gene with doubtful origins. Apparently it makes you stronger than the average werewolf. But it's a myth."
"Yeah," I said wryly. Let's go get back our box." We trailed our way through the woods and back to the sanctuary within the sanctuary. The place maintained its outward eerie somnubulence. But it would be dark and raging inside. Maultner urged me forward. We slipped into the building. Sweaty bodies mingled and raged. Maultner's grip was firm on my wrist as he pulled me. He was careful to bow his head down so no one would recognize him. Good choice. He led me right into the rickety elevator once again and we went down.
