The seconds slowly ticked away in my head and I waited with tense breath.
Beep.
I opened my eyes. The button was green. The compartment whirled open.
"No way," Casper gasped. "You guessed it in one go." He had already been laying down alternatives on how to rip the compartment apart without needing a password.
"I don't think Freur is a complicated man. I figured the password had to relate to the most complicated issue in his life. A word to remind him that he had a problem his power and money could not solve."
MAULTNER
I had considered putting Maude's name but I figured that Freur's problem had to be his and his alone. As it was, Maude appeared to be everybody's problem, mine included.
So my guess proved something monumental. Freur knew about Maultner. Maultner's very existence gnawed at the back of his mind. In what way?
Why?
