I wiped at my tears, which just kept flowing uncontrollably. "I'm sorry, Krish, but I can't stop crying," I managed to say, trying to laugh at how pathetic I looked right now, even as the tears kept falling.
He hesitated for a moment, then said with a teasing smile, "I'm going to smoke outside. Call me when you're done." Without waiting for a reply, he stepped out the door quickly, leaving me alone. As soon as I closed the door behind him, my sobs grew louder, echoing through the quiet room.
I whispered softly to myself, "I wish I could have spent more time with you, too."
And then, almost as if speaking to him directly, I added, "I wish I could have shared more stories, learned more about you."
A heavy ache settled in my chest. "I wish we could have spent our lives together."
My mind drifted to him—Aiden, my stubborn, lovable husband. "Aiden... my annoying hubby," I murmured with a small, sad smile.
