Chapter 1 - The Betrayal

The gentle sound of a key turning in the lock echoed through the quiet penthouse that early afternoon as Kevin stepped through the front door.In his hands was a cardboard box containing his belongings from the office, and on his face was a deeply troubled frown.Kevin:Why does my life have such bad luck? :(

Kevin had just been fired from his job as a financial assistant at the Barito Group, one of the most powerful companies in the state. And who had fired him? None other than his girlfriend's father. The same girlfriend with whom he shared this penthouse apartment.

Kevin adjusted a vase on the table and placed the box beside it. He glanced around, hoping to find Rose in the living room watching Netflix. He had prayed she had already heard the news—maybe from a colleague or even from her father. That way, he could come home to her comforting arms and wouldn't have to break the news himself.

But things turned out very differently from what he had hoped. The air felt heavy, the silence thick and uncomfortable.

Did she go out with her friends? Kevin wondered, looking up the stairs. That was when he heard faint laughter coming from above.

"Rose?" Kevin called, taking off his office ID—which he had forgotten to return—and tossing it into the box.

No response.

He climbed the stairs cautiously, two at a time, following the sound of continued laughter. He quickly recognized it—it was Rose's. Was she on a call?

No. Everything felt too wrong for it to be that simple.

Kevin moved toward the bedroom, and with each step, his heart pounded louder. The door was slightly ajar, so he pushed it open—and then… he froze.

The sight before him stole the air from his lungs.

There she was—his Rose—in the arms of another man. And it couldn't have been just anyone. Of course, it had to be Rocky.

The son of the CEO of Moon Enterprise. The same guy who had bullied Kevin all through high school—and again in college.

He was lying on Kevin's bed, shirt undone, with Rose draped across his chest. Rocky's arms were wrapped around her as if she were a trophy, and that smug grin on his face was pointed straight at Kevin, as if he'd been waiting for this moment.

"Well, well," Rocky drawled. "Looks like the dog finally found his way home."

Rose turned at the sound of Kevin's voice, her eyes widening in shock."Kevin!" she gasped, immediately pulling away from Rocky and wrapping the bedsheet around herself.

Kevin was still frozen. It felt like his brain had shut down and his whole life had been flipped over, crashing right in front of him."Wha— What were you about to do just now?" he stammered.

Rocky leaned back casually, letting out a mocking laugh."I'll give you a hint, dog. It's nothing PG! Ha ha!"

He let out a satisfied sigh and sat up, resting both arms on his knees."This sucks for you. You really walked in at the worst possible time, pal!"

Kevin chose to ignore him and turned his gaze to Rose."Rose..." his voice cracked. "Your father just fired me. I came here—" He choked on his words. "What are you doing with him?"

Rose adjusted the bedsheet around her but still refused to meet Kevin's eyes."Kevin, let's not make this harder than it has to be."

"What?" Kevin's voice rose in disbelief. "Harder than it… What are you saying right now?"

"I'm saying it's over," Rose said firmly, finally looking up to meet his gaze. "This... this isn't working."

"It's not working?" Disbelief shook in Kevin's voice. "You're cheating on me—in our home—and you have the audacity to say it's not working?"

Rocky chuckled as he stood up, stretching smugly."Relax, champ. She's upgrading. I mean, can you really blame her?" he said, gesturing to himself with a smirk.
