Chapter 2 - Dying with regret

"Upgrade?" Kevin's fists clenched. "Rose, is that what this is? You're leaving me for this... this piece of shit?"

Rocky grimaced. "Who the hell are you calling 'shit,' dog?"

He moved as if to lunge at Kevin, but Rose quickly stepped between them, holding Kevin back with one hand."Kevin, no!" she shouted.

The bedsheet slipped slightly, exposing her half-naked body. But it didn't matter anymore—no one was paying attention to that. At this point, both men had already seen everything.

Rose turned to Kevin, whose eyes were burning red with a mix of rage and heartbreak.

"Kevin," she began, her voice firmer now, "Rocky is someone who can give me the life I want. Do you even realize what this means for my father's company? For me? He's everything you're not—and everything you'll probably never be. He's ambitious. Powerful. Worth something."

God, those words stung. Kevin felt each syllable like a knife slicing through his chest. His mind spun, his heart screamed. He had loved her—trusted her. Everything he'd ever done had been for her.

Kevin gave a slow nod and let out a bitter laugh."Everything I'm not, huh? That's one way to spin it. Another way is just to admit you're a slut."

"You bastard!" Rocky shouted, surging forward again, but Rose caught his arm and held him back.

"This is your father's doing, isn't it?" Kevin said bitterly. "He's hated me from the start—always thought I wasn't good enough for his precious daughter. Fired me, threw me out like trash, and now he's parading this jackass in front of you like some kind of perfect suitor."

"Call me a jackass again," Rocky snapped, his eyes flashing with warning. "I dare you."

Kevin looked at him with the eyes of a man who had nothing left to lose."Jack... ass."

"Nggh!" Enraged, Rocky shoved Rose aside and threw a punch at Kevin.

It landed squarely on his jaw, but Kevin retaliated with a harder, stronger blow that made Rocky stumble backward.

As Kevin moved forward to press his advantage, a large security guard suddenly appeared, grabbing him from behind and slamming him against the wall.

"Urkghh!" Kevin groaned in pain, collapsing to the floor while clutching his stomach.

From where she stood, Rose looked on, her face clouded with guilt.

Rocky crouched in front of Kevin, rubbing his own jaw and smirking."You still don't get it, do you? In this world, only two things matter—power and money. Money buys power, and I've got more than enough of both. You? You've got nothing. Not even a girlfriend anymore!"

He threw his head back and laughed, loud and cruel. "Ha! Ha! Ha!!"

"You don't get it, do you? In this world, all that matters is power and money. Money buys power—and I've got plenty of it," Rocky sneered. "You? You've got nothing. Not even a girlfriend anymore! Ha! Ha! Ha!" He laughed, loud and villainously.

"You're just a nobody, Kevin," he added, locking eyes with him. "Pathetic."

Kevin glared up at him, his eyes burning with hatred. He turned toward Rose, silently pleading—but she avoided his gaze once again, her expression caught between guilt and cold resolve.

"This is what happens when you overreach," Rocky continued, almost gleeful. "Know your place, dog."

Kevin groaned but forced himself to speak. "I'm... ugh... surprised you can still smile after I punched you that hard."

Rocky gave him a cold smirk and nodded slightly. "Kevin, you just don't know—" Wham! He drove his fist into Kevin's stomach. "—when to shut up."

Kevin collapsed further, gasping as the air was knocked out of him. But even through the pain, he looked up at Rocky and murmured, "You always did say I had a death wish."

Rocky stood, fixing his cuffs with smug precision, then gestured at the guard. "Get him out of here."

"To hell with you, Rocky," Kevin whispered with what little strength he had left. "To hell with all of you."

The guard picked Kevin up from the ground and carried him to the door, with Rocky and Rose following behind.

Then, without a hint of care, the guard dropped him on the street.

"You can come pack your things later, Kevin," Rose called after him—her voice distant, emotionless.

Kevin didn't respond. He wanted nothing more to do with her—except to prove that she had made a terrible mistake today.

Rocky sneered as he turned to the guard. "Send the dog to the streets where he belongs!" he laughed loudly, flipping Kevin off with a smug middle finger.

That struck a nerve. Kevin flipped him off in return—but the guard reacted with anger, giving him a violent shove.

A much stronger shove than expected.

Kevin stumbled backward, his foot catching the curb—and suddenly, he was in the street, directly in the path of a speeding truck-KUN.

"No!" Rose's scream echoed behind him.

Kevin turned his head just in time to see the blinding headlights, the deafening horn—and then...

Bang!

The impact was immediate and merciless.

Pain exploded through his body as he was flung like a ragdoll, landing hard on the pavement. The world spun. The taste of blood filled his mouth, and an aching hum rang in his ears.

He lay there, unmoving, as blood pooled beneath him. His vision blurred. Darkness crept in from the edges.

It was then that Kevin drew his last breath.

Anger and hatred were the final emotions that burned in his slowing heart, and the last face he saw was Rocky's—sneering, victorious.

If I could rewrite my life story, he thought bitterly, I'd come back as someone powerful—someone who could do whatever he wanted. Damn it, God... why was my life filled with so much bad luck?

With those final thoughts, Kevin let his eyes fall shut, the world around him slipping into silence.

He died with deep regret heavy in his soul, a life broken by betrayal, and a heart shattered by love turned cruel.
