My bag was waiting by the front door when I came downstairs.
Callum had packed the last few things for me the night before. My bus ticket was tucked into the front pocket, along with some cash and the phone he'd bought me. There wasn't much left to arrange.
Nadia was in the kitchen, pouring coffee when she saw me.
"So you're really going."
"Yeah."
She put the mug down and came over. "I'm not happy about it."
She hugged me before either of us could say anything else. I held her for a moment, then let go.
"You better eat properly," she said.
She gave me a look, then Dort came in and stopped when she saw my bag.
"You're really leaving today?"
"That the plan."
She glanced at Nadia. "I was hoping somebody would talk him out of it."
"Nobody tried very hard," I said.
Dort walked over and hugged me. "Come back soon, Reid."
"I'll try."
She pulled away and pointed at me. "As soon as you get your memory back."
Then the elders came through before Callum was ready to leave.
