Elise's words stayed with me after she left.
I tried working for another hour, but I didn't get much done. Eventually I gave up, shoved it aside, and went downstairs.
Callum was in the kitchen when I came through.
He looked at me, then at the clock.
"You looking for Reid?"
I opened the refrigerator. There wasn't anything in there I wanted.
"Is he still awake?"
"Probably. He was packing earlier."
I shut the door.
Callum went back to rinsing his cup. "Elise talk to you?"
"Yes."
"She wasn't wrong." He dried his hands and leaned against the counter. "You don't have to fix anything tonight. But he's leaving tomorrow, Rhys. And he doesn't remember why you two ended up where you did."
That irritated me enough that I turned around.
"Everybody keeps telling me that like I somehow forgot. I know exactly what he remembers. Nothing."
"Then stop treating him like he remembers all of it."
I stared at him.
He picked up his cup.
