The light around Elise kept getting brighter.
By the time Callum reached the room, it had spread past the bed and across the floor. Petra and Sorin stood on either side of her, neither willing to touch her yet.
People had already gathered in the hall, and more kept coming. Nadia. Dort. Maren. Fighters from the shelter. Pack members who had spent the last few weeks asking about Elise every time they saw me.
Elise hadn't moved, and I kept hold of her hand.
"Elise."
The light intensified again.
Petra glanced at the doctor. "Anything changing?"
"Heart rate's up. Fast, but regular."
Sorin moved closer to the monitor.
I barely heard them.
Something was happening through the bond. For days, there had been almost nothing from Elise. Now the bond felt full enough that I couldn't tell where it was coming from.
"Elise, I'm here."
Her fingers didn't move.
