I hated being weak.
The first day after waking had mostly disappeared into sleep. The second had been better. By the third, I could stay awake long enough to have an actual conversation without forgetting what someone had asked halfway through.
My body still felt weak in ways I wasn't used to. My legs shook when I stood too long, and my chest hurt from the compression every time I coughed.
Petra and Sorin came in after breakfast with Maren behind them.
Rhys was already there. He had moved half his work into my room. Papers had started appearing on the table beside the window. Then his laptop.
Petra pulled a chair closer to the bed.
"Do you feel well enough to talk about what happened?"
"Yes."
Rhys looked up from his phone. "You don't have to."
He watched me for another second, then put his phone aside.
I shifted higher against the pillows. "I was awake the whole time."
Maren frowned. "During the coma?"
"Not awake like this."
