As I was arguing with Haven about his scary remarks, a cautious knock sounded at the door. I thought it might be Verdi, but it was Edwin and Genise peeking their heads in.
Edwin even omitted his usual loud greeting, "Raviel!" and just asked quietly, "Can we come in?"
"Come in, Eddy. You too, Genise."
At my permission, they both entered the room hesitantly.
Edwin, who usually wore whatever he grabbed, was dressed in a suit from head to toe, and Genise was in her perfectly tailored royal guard uniform.
I gestured for them to come closer as they stood a bit away, their eyes just shining with curiosity. Then, from across the table, they peeked at Kayenne swaddled in his blanket.
"He's so tiny…" Edwin said.
"He's grown a lot in just a week," I replied.
"Can such a small thing grow up to be an adult?"
"Of course. If he takes after his father, he’ll be pretty big, right?"
