The morning after the imperial family took in their new pet bird, Foreign Minister Jepeto was waiting outside my office. The fact that he couldn't wait for the upcoming meeting wasn’t a good sign.
"Jepeto, what’s going on?"
"The Timar Empire has sent an envoy, Your Majesty."
"The Timar Empire?"
"Yes, they will likely arrive around the same time as the envoys from the small nations coming with His Grace Sutton."
"That's problematic."
As I tapped my desk with that response, Jepeto’s face grew even more serious.
The Timar Empire had become the hottest topic on this continent. The young emperor there was rumored to dream of unifying these large land masses. They had already swallowed up several small nations and were expanding their territory.
Without hearing, I could easily guess the purpose of the small nations’ envoys coming with Edwin to Philander. They might hope to shield themselves with Seven Hills and avoid the Timar Empire’s advances.
