The man in the shadows sat behind his desk, a file open in front of him.
He had not touched it in several minutes.
His attention was elsewhere.
The room remained silent until his assistant entered.
"Sir."
The man looked up.
"It has been more than a week," he said. "Still no news of Loretta Gladstone?"
The assistant stopped a few steps from the desk.
"No, sir."
The man's expression hardened.
"We searched every cemetery and morgue we could find. We also checked hospitals and several private mortuaries. There is still no trace of her."
The man leaned back slowly, "Nothing?" he honestly did not believe that Kevin could hide someone he wanted to find.
"Nothing." the assistant answered in a low voice. For more than a week, they had searched for evidence that Loretta Gladstone was dead. There should have been something.
A burial record.
A body.
A private arrangement made by the Goodman family.
Anything.
Instead, Loretta had simply disappeared.
