(AMARI'S POV)
I have experienced many setbacks and unfortunate events in my life.
But they all can't amount to what I have gone through in the past three days.
"Amari."
It wasn't the call of my name that brought me out of my thoughts but the way his fierce hand gently shook me back to my reality.
I peeled my temple from the chilled passenger glass and was welcomed by the sudden warmth of the car. The blur of the bungalow snapped into sharp focus before I turned sideways to face those polished obsidian eyes.
"Are you alright?"
"Yes." I replied. Suddenly, goosebumps ran down my skin, like I had only just noticed his hold. I looked down at his hand around my arm and his gaze followed mine at the same time. He let go like my skin burned him.
There was a second of uncomfortable silence and then he cleared his throat.
"You haven't said a word since we left the council meeting."
