The old hangar was a mess it smelled like rust and diesel fuel.. Once you got past a door that looked like a broken beam everything was different. The air was cool and clean it was like being in a hospital. There were servers they were so quiet just humming along they had not stopped working in years.
Eva said "Your father built a room". She was touching the screens they were not yet.
Kevin shook his head. "He built a way to protect himself" he said, he was typing a code into a panel. "He always thought someone would come after him. He never said who".
Then the screens started to turn on one by one the room was filled with blue light. Kevin sat down in a chair it looked like it had not been moved in a time. He started to look through files he was very fast like he had done this before.
Eva sat down next to him she was very close her shoulder was touching his. "Tell me everything" she said. "No more secrets".
Kevin took a breath. For a moment he looked smaller, not like a boss, just a regular man with a lot of secrets. "Marcus Whitfield is not a senator" he said. "He is the one with the money he has three companies that are connected to a company your father started thirty years ago. It is supposed to be a company that invests money. Really it is a way to hide money from the government and from people who might ask questions".
Eva listened she was not happy. "My father was killed because of this" she said.
Kevin said "No your father helped make this system he was very good at hiding money that is why they killed him".
Eva was angry she said "The people who tried to kill me they did not just want to silence my father they wanted to control me".
Kevin said "Eleanor wanted the drive because it would give her power Whitfield wants it because it has all the secrets, all the things your father knew about".
Eva said "I threw the drive in the ocean".
Kevin looked at her he was not sure if he believed her. "Did you really?" he said.
Eva did not say anything she just smiled it was not a smile. "I threw a drive in the ocean" she said. ". I did not say it was the only one".
Kevin laughed it was a laugh he was surprised. "You had another copy the time?" he said.
Eva said "I had it since Malta I did not know if I could trust you".
Kevin said "Now that you do trust me what do we do?"
Eva took the drive out of her jacket it was in a case. "Now we find out how deep this goes" she said. "Then we decide what to do".
Kevin looked at the drive then at Eva he was thinking. "Whitfield has a party, in Georgetown on Friday it would be bad if someone showed up with the secrets".
Eva picked up the drive she was thinking too. "I guess we are not done hiding yet" she said.
The wind outside was getting stronger it was hitting the hangar doors it sounded like something was trying to get out. In Washington a senator was sleeping he did not know that his secrets were about to be told.
