I woke up in the middle of the night and looked at Hannah asleep beside me.
She looked so peaceful. I, on the other hand, couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Jessica holding the gun, pointing it at Hannah.
During that time in the kitchen held hostage by Jessica, I had been amazed at Hannah's bravery. I always knew she was strong, but she proved she could stay cool under duress. Even though I had tried to keep things from escalating, even making jokes with Jessica, I had been supremely nervous.
I especially hadn't wanted anything to happen to Geoffrey and Miguel. When Jessica got a call and then cut off their ties and took them to the garage, my heart fell into my stomach. I really thought she might kill them, and I tried my best to persuade her to stop. She didn't listen, and took them anyway. The beating in my stomach like someone pounding a drum in there, made me worry.
