I sat tied to a chair in my own kitchen when I heard the helicopter land on the roof.
Geoffrey and Miguel heard it as well as we all looked up to the ceiling.
A large thud shook the ceiling, and then we heard the footsteps, like rats running in various directions.
I was pretty sure, though, that they weren't rats. They were FBI agents staking positions on the roof. That mean anyone exiting the house, even if they managed to somehow get away, could be shot just trying to escape. The thought unnerved me.
Looking toward the window, I searched for any movement outside, but the curtains had been drawn. I couldn't make out specific people, only shapes.
Was Hannah out there? I didn't know, but I hoped she was safe.
Earlier that morning, after Hannah had left, I sauntered into the kitchen to enjoy my coffee. My personal chef stopped by two days out of the week and prepped meals and snacks along with fresh dinners for those days. For coffee, I was on my own.
