Freddy and Edward waltzed in just before Martin arrived. They looked dapper in a pair of old suits complete with hats and pocket squares.
As people were drinking and mingling, Martin arrived at the party.
"Martin," I exclaimed, my whole body perking up, glad to see him finally come in. For a minute, I wasn't sure he was actually going to show up, and all or preparations would have been for naught.
I wrapped my arms around him and whispered in his ear, "Just wiggle your ear if it's all too much, and I'll sneak you out to a private room."
He nodded, a thankful look on his face.
Once he saw Lauren, in her smart attire, walking toward him at the door, his face brightened.
"Hi, Lauren," he said. "Thanks for coming."
"Glad to be here," she said. "Can I get you a drink, since you are the guest of honor?"
"Yes, sure. A beer please."
Lauren walked toward the bar, and I noticed Martin's eyes following her.
Lori approached him next, grabbing his arm and pulling him inside.
