When I suggested playing tenia with Stan and Geoffrey, I didn't think it was going to turn out to be so difficult. Roman hated to lose, and I could see the tension and disappointment on his face. I was trying my best, but I just couldn't seem to return the ball with any accuracy.
Either I hit it into the net or wailed it up high. My performance didn't bode well for our match against Lori and Marcus.
Eventually, Stan and Geoffrey caught onto the fact that I wasn't a threat, and they started lobbing it to me for an easy return. Roman was growing impatient with their pity, and we quickly lost the game.
"Thanks for the game," Geoffrey said. "It's nice getting outside, hitting a few balls around." He looked as if he hadn't had to work very hard, having not even broken a sweat.
Stan, ever quiet, just shook Roman's hand and then mine, saying, "Good game."
"We still have some work to do," Roman said.
"It's okay. I don't think Lori and Marcus will be quite as good."
