I was waiting for Hannah at the table in the dining room when she returned.
"Hi," I said, standing from my place, walking over to her, and giving her a kiss on the cheek. "How's Martin settling in?"
"Good, I think. We made cookies. He said that would make it more homey."
I nodded. "Do you want some beef wellington? I had the cook make it, because I know you love it."
"Thank you," we both took a seat at the table. "But I ate so many cookies, I don't know how much more will fit in my stomach."
I dug into my plate. Since I hadn't had any cookies, I was starving. "This is so good," I said.
"Whoa, slow down there. You're eating like a trash compactor," Hannah said.
"Sorry. I know. It's just. I was so worried about you the days you were gone, I didn't eat much. I'm making up for it."
Hannah laughed and shook her head with a coy smile. "I'm sorry. I forget sometimes how hard it must have been for you."
"You're back now, and that's all that matters. Let's move on."
